This is a giant size version of the hand warmer for children. It is made by the very famous metal hand warmer pioneer Peacock from Japan. A lot of other such hand warmers are copying from the Peacock design. This is a brand new unit. It is normally not imported into United States now but we managed to acquired some brand new units. It is 100% Made in Japan. Therefore, the price is on the high side because Japanese products are expensive. It gives comfortable continuous heat for up to 30 hours on a single filling of lighter fluid. The giant size is also more than twice as big in volume compare to other metal hand warmer. It would be great to warm up your hand faster in sub-zero temperature. It can be turned off by removing the heating element for a few seconds. Platinum catalyst flameless technology ensures easy lighting and stable temperature from beginning to the end. It is very safe to use. You start it with a cigarette lighter burning about 2 seconds. Made of polished chrome plated copper, which does not rust like steel. It includes a carrying case and an extra heating element. Buy one for each pocket or coat and never be chilled in the cold again. This hand warmer is the ideal gift for the hunter and fisherman, and anyone that enjoys the outdoors in the winter. I bought 5 of these as gifts for family. I was a bit concerned about the safety of the warmers, but after keeping one in a pocket for a total of about 36 hours I have to say that doesn't seem to be an issue at all. There's no flame with these; they use a catalytic reaction to generate heat. I easily got 12 hours heat from this smaller unit, and over 20 with the larger hand warmer.

These are the smaller of the two versions sold, and while not as warm as the larger unit, they do put out plenty of heat to warm a pocket. It's like having a warm coffee cup to wrap your hands around.

Functionally these are very simple. A small "cap" attaches to the top of the fuel reservoir; it holds a gauzy material that has some platinum particles in it. The platinum catalyzes fuel vapors, generating a nice warm, but not uncomfortably hot hand warmer. You start the reaction by holding a flame to the cap.

My only criticism of the unit is that it's easy to overfill. Overfilling results in the transfer of some fuel directly into the gauzy material in the cap, which then will produce a tiny flame when you try to start the reaction - which you should never allow to happen. It's very easy to blow out the flame (like blowing out a birthday candle) and you can daub the excess fuel up with a napkin. I just wish it was a bit easier to figure out how much fuel to put in.

If you know someone that works outside, sits in the cold at football games, or partakes of outdoor winter sports - this is a really cool, inexpensive gift.

This is a great product to keep your hands warm. It feels really nice when you have cold hands but don't expect it to keep your whole body warm. You still need warm cloths.

I filled the hand warmer with lighter fluid until I could see some liquid in the cottom filling. It lit easily and has been on for over 16 hours. I have shut it down and started it back up 3 times and it still running strong on one load.

You can shut it down by removing the catalyst and wrapping the warmer in aluminum foil. It restarts easily. I find the junior size to be too small and will purchase the larger one, even though I don't need the extra run time. Incidentally, lighter fluid is not so easy to find now. Only a local hardware store had any.

These things stay hot for 20 hours and are easily twice as hot as the disposable ones!!! I tried the JON-E warmers and white smoke came from my pocket. Jon-E also smelled like burning lighter fluid!! These are very low odor. I work outside for most of the winter in NJ and these things are great for keeping spare gloves hot. Be careful not to overfill them or you will ruin the platinum element.
