This rosin has been recommended to me by my violin teacher and I am very happy with the results of using it. The consistency of the rosin is softer then other brands I tried, and thus makes the application onto the bow hair much easier. The rosin stays on the hair for quite a long time, and treated bow produces very clean sound, without any harshness or hisses. Residue fall out onto the violin varnish seems less messy then from some stock rosins I tried. Wrapping the rosin in cloth/sponge is a nice touch - no plastic box to rattle inside your violin case, and your hands stay clean while handling it.

I tend to use softer rosins in low humidity settings, and lighter rosins in high humidity. Hill dark rosin works wonderfully, especially in winter, when heated rooms are often very low in humidity. The rosin enables the hairs to grip the strings without being sticky, and gives a beautiful clean sound. If you're experiencing problems with playing in a low-humidity setting, this is the first product to try.

Not too bad. I was expecting it to be a little softer, but it is way better than the original rosin that I got with my violin. I don't have a lot of experience with rosins, but this does exactly what it advertises and works just fine.

This is a much better rosin than what my violin came with. Make the violin tone sound a lot better when I play the right notes.

After about a year the fine rosin dust it created had turned into lots of large flecks and my cello was constantly dirty looking. Then the cake started crumbling when it had never been dropped. It used to be good for the price, but now that the price has doubled I would rather get something better than pay for this.

I purchased a replica' stradivari that came with starter bow, and starter rosin, with the starter strings. The rosin was hard to apply onto the bow, and required reapplying only after about 15-30seconds of playing. I purchased the "Hill Dark Rosin" and when I applied the rosin the first time I already was able to tell the difference. Each stroke of the bow on the rosin revealed marks on the rosin which means it was applying. The starter rosin never got marked up. After about 8 strokes of this rosin I was able to play the violin with a much better tone, and lots of less scratching. After this experience, I highly recommend this brand and type of rosin. I would buy more for myself, but I do not know how rosin ages.

Hill's Dark Rosin was recommended to me from several sources. Upon using it, I noticed an immediate difference. In addition to generating less loose powder when playing, the bow seemed to catch easier on the strings, even in the dry, New England winter air. The product is easy to apply using its "cloth", easy to store, and effective. I find myself applying the Hill Dark Rosin less frequently and in smaller amounts than other rosins I have used. The price is reasonable and the performance excellent. I highly recommend this rosin.

Product came on time and as advertised without any cracks or problems. I prefer a rosin that has more grip or deep bite to it, but that's just an opinion of the product. I'm sure there are many people who would love this style of rosin.

This rosin give great contact within the hair and the strings. I've tried it as soon as it had been delivered with a new bow to prove exactly how it is, i find it great, specialy when you want some a la corda style. It gives you even more sound of your violin without to give high presure with the bow.
