In terms of their hits in North America, this offering from Disky of Holland delivers in an album with great sound quality abd a page of liner notes written in 1995 by Arthur Davis.

The Manchester group, led by vocalist Freddie Garrity, born November 14, 1940, and including Derek Quinn on lead guitar, Roy Crewsdon on guitar, drummer Bernie Dwyer, and Peter Birrell on bass, first began performing and recording as The Dreamers in 1961. Just prior to the first big wave of the British Invasion in January 1964, they were among a few whose records were issued in North America in 1963 to "test the waters" so to speak, along with The Beatles. In their case, Capitol released I'm Telling You Now which went nowhere.

But in early 1965, with the Invasion in full force for just over a year, and the group now recording for Mercury, the Tower Records subsidiary of Capitol tried again, and it was a wise decision as this time it shot to # 1 Billboard Pop Hot 100 early that spring b/w What Have I Done To You? This came as their first record for Mercury, I Understand (Just How You Feel), sung with the melody from Auld Lang Syne, was making its way to # 36 Hot 100 b/w I Will. Which couldn't have made the folks at Mercury happy.

Later that spring, the Mercury release, Do The Freddie, made it to a respectable # 18 b/w Tell Me When and, once again, Tower rushed out a cut first done for the main Capitol label in 1964, and this time You Were Meant For Me hit the # 21 spot in June b/w So Fine (Beat Merchants). Their final North American hit then came in late summer 1965 on Mercury when A Little You topped out at # 48 HoT 100 b/w Things I'd Like To Say.

What this group had going for it in their personal appearance was on-stage humour.

I love these guys. Zany, funny, and not bad as musicians either. Could have had more songs on the CD but it is impossible to find these guys' old albums,let alone a CD.
