To tell the truth, I didn't buy this item from Amazon. I've had mine for a great number of years and it is a much older model than the one they show. I have very deep tissue knots, no matter how hard or how long they are rubbed, they never go away. I have had the same knot for almost two years, so I started looking for tools to help my husband when he rubs my back. I tried one that was in the shape of a dolphin, but the fins left giant indentions in my back. Then I found this, so I ordered it. It does get down to a...

To tell the truth, I didn't buy this item from Amazon. I've had mine for a great number of years and it is a much older model than the one they show. It is a tool used in accupressure to treat and remove muscle spasms. Basically, it is used to probe for the "trigger points" that cause the spasms. Once you locate the source, you press it out. Think of a spasm as being like a wrinkled garment. You remove the wrinkles (spasms) with an iron and some pressure. Now, do they work? You betcha, and I speak from long personal experience. But let me recommend a good book on the subject that Amazon also carries. It is called "Pain Erasure" by Bonnie Prudden. It is very effective for back and leg pain in particular although it will work on any muscle in spasm. I've found her technique and a jacknobber to be a far more effective way of controlling pain than prescription pain medications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make those knots in your muscles submit!!, February 28, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My wife gets the worst knots in her back and right leg (affectionately I call this "gas pedal leg"). We had a wooden variant of this that we called "the molecule" made by someone else that we broke. It produced sharp wooden points, so we decided to switch to something more durable.

Pro:
+ Effective on knots in all places
+ Ruggedly strong, at least we think so
+ Price
+ You can lay on it yourself, or your significant other can hold and press...
+ The knobs are of different sizes, so you can choose different amounts of aggressiveness/depth
+ Lightweight

Con:
- Dark color... sometimes we lose it, which is really our own issue I suppose

Bottomline: Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Accupressure Tool, September 1, 2008
By
I've been using my Jacknobber II for at least five years for sore, achy spots on my back and neck. Several weeks ago, I saw a Physical Therapist (PT) with the Pain Management Clinic I'm going to for pain from Peripheral Neuropathy. Since Western medicine isn't doing much to deal with my pain, she showed my how to trace three accupressure meridiens from above my knees to the bottoms of my feet using a rolling ball massager. I did the traces that way for a few days and then switched to my Jacknobber, which works far better and with more control. So, I bought my PT this Jacknobber II. She thinks it's great, too, and has shown and recommended it to the members of the chronic pain management class I'm attending.

It does get down to a couple of the knots, but it doesn't touch my deep knot. To bad those shiatsu chair massager's are so expensive. All in all, this is an okay product, but it doesn't do much for my knots.

This review is from: The Original Jacknobber II by the Pressure Positive Company (Health and Beauty)
I use the Jacknobber II on the muscles around my right SI joint. These muscles are deep and very hard to reach, but the nobber's smaller points (it has two diameters: 7/8 in. and 1 1/8 in.) are very effective. The tool's height is 3 1/2 in., which makes it possible to apply a lot of force into the muscle by using your own weight.

The first time I used the nobber I stayed on the floor for 30-45 minutes or more, placing it under my hip and working it deep into the muscles. Pressing those long-cramped muscles into submission felt so good that I over did it, and I had a little soreness the next day. But I started to learn how to use the tool with greater and greater effectiveness without getting sore at all. The tool's hardness is an asset in my opinion. It is not difficult to control how much pressure you apply, and the tool doesn't squish away when you want to press hard.

I'm amazed at how many nooks and crannies with cramped muscles I've found around the SI joint using the smaller points, and how many directions I can tug and press the muscles with it. I've tried the Davinci Tool Firm and the Knobble II as well. They are both good products and have their uses - but for deep, pinpoint control, this tool is my favorite by far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, February 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this and another massager with a single knob. I think this is great for massaging, but is kind of awkward to hold and apply deep pressure with a single knob. For neck massage and massage down either side of the spine- this works great. Definitely works best with massage oil- very pleased with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than your thumbs, September 28, 2011

I broke down and bought this because Trigger Point therapy does seem to help with pain. This product is easy to handle and the pressure won't leave you with odd bruises. Go ahead, buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best do-it-yourself deep muscle pain or spasm reliever, December 24, 2009
By

This review is from: The Original Jacknobber II by the Pressure Positive Company (Health and Beauty)
I've also had mine several years, so it may not be the exact same one as the "II" sold here, but it looks identical. I actually have a couple of them. I've also tried other "tools" of this type, as you can see advertised above, but this one is, for me, the best by far.

Its a nice clean, cool, strong hard plastic, unbreakable and easy to hold due to the shape. You essentially find the area/ muscle group giving you the pain, or the spasm, and try to press quite firmly with one of the smaller knobs, into that area. If it is a trigger point sort of thing (and they all are not...see a doctor if the pain keeps increasing or other symptoms like muscle weakness, numbness of an area, or so on, occur.....then the Jacknobber will, eventually, help break up the spasm and give at least some pain relief.

OF COURSE its not the same level of benefit as a certified massage therapist, (referencing another review) but this is an at-home or even at-work tool that is small and light and easy to handle alone.

I have chronic cervical neck spasms, due to bulging discs which impinge on the nerves into my shoulder. The one area that causes me the worst pain, and leads to severe headaches, is the area up "under" the occiput of the skull, on the right side, that little indentation where the skull ends and neck muscle, tendons and ligaments begins. If I press the Jacknobber into that small area, off and on, as well as taking the medication prescribed by my Neurologist, I find it can break up the spasm, if it hasn't already gotten too severe, and help stop/ prevent a severe headache.

I've also had family members use it to press on that area or other tender/ tight areas in the same part of the neck/ or in my shoulder muscles. It is not a cure for anything, but I find it very useful in my situation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Tool, April 30, 2009

As a massage therapist, I am always looking for ways to help myself. I do not use this tool with clients, but I have found it very useful to lie on, thereby getting enough pressure to work out some of my trigger points. Feels great!
