The Original 1973-1977 Corvette Fact Manual, January 23, 2000
This review is from: The Original Nineteen Seventy Three - Nineteen Seventy Seven Corvette Fact Manual (Paperback)
"The Original 1977-1977 Corvette Fact Manual" by Peter Licastro is an outstanding reference for "C3" Corvette enthusiasts needing technical and restoration information about those model years. Licastro's extensive background as a book and magazine writer specializing in Corvette restoration subjects comes though loud-and-clear.
This book is sometimes confused with a title with a similar name published by M. Dobbins, but names are where the similarity ends. One outstanding feature of this book setting it apart from others is outstanding photographic reproduction. Another area this book surpasses others is in the depth of its information and the clarity in presenting that information.
The publication of this book in 1994 was, in-part, a response to the NCRS recognizing the 73-77 cars in 1990 and the first of those model years being "Flight-judged" in the summer of 1993. The "The Original 1973-1977 Corvette Fact Manual" gives anyone beginning a restoration project on one of those cars a great deal of data that will enhance the accuracy of the restoration.
I don't own a 73-77 so I'm not contemplating a restoration, but I am a Corvette information junkie and Licastro's book satisfies my addiction. For instance, I learned how the first five-mph bumpers on the 73s worked. I learned the pop-out back window went away in 73, in-part, because Zora Duntov didn't like the draft he got through it at high speed. I learned the early and late dip-stick tubes for 76s differ by 2.25 inches. I learned that glass roofs were announced for 1977 but never produced because GM got into a spat with the supplier of the roofs. All of this is interesting Corvette information. In my case, enjoyable party talk. For hard-core restorers, it's the stuff that makes the difference between good projects and great ones.
