Book Description

July 5, 2011 Personal Demons

Luc Cain was born and raised in Hell, but he isn’t feeling as demonic as usual lately—thanks to Frannie Cavanaugh and the unique power she never realized she had. But you can’t desert Hell without consequences, and suddenly Frannie and Luc find themselves targeted by the same demons who used to be Luc’s allies.

Left with few options, Frannie and Luc accept the protection of Heaven and one of its most powerful angels, Gabe. Unfortunately, Luc isn’t the only one affected by Frannie, and it isn’t long before Gabe realizes that being around her is too…tempting. Rather than risk losing his wings, he leaves Frannie and Luc under the protection of her recently-acquired guardian angel.

Which would be fine, but Gabe is barely out the door before an assortment of demons appears—and they’re not leaving without dragging Luc back to Hell with them. Hell won’t give up and Heaven won’t give in. Frannie’s guardian exercises all the power he has to keep them away, but the demons are willing to hurt anyone close to Frannie in order to get what they want. It will take everything she has and then some to stay out of Hell’s grasp.

And not everyone will get out of it alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars A riveting, seductive and irresistible sequel July 5, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Just because Luc got away once doesn't mean that King Lucifer is ready to give up. Hell wants Luc back and they're prepared to do whatever they can to bring him back and make an example of him.

But with Heaven standing in their way, they will have to pull out all the stops to tag his soul once again. And that means going after the only person that Luc cares about. Frannie Cavanaugh.

And if Frannie is too strong and too protected then they'll just have find someone close to her who isn't - one of her friends or maybe her new Guardian. Whatever it takes. Because not everyone can resist a demon's lure, not even an angel.

***

Original Sin is the absolutely riveting, seductive and irresistible sequel to Personal Demons. In this second book in the series the story is even more gripping, with a new character that will keep readers on edge, the intensity is elevated to a whole new level, and the ending is an exquisite torture.

Even though Frannie loves Luc, enough to have saved him from Hell to keep him with her, she is still torn. She still loves Gabe. She still needs the peace he offers, his comfort and his protection.

But even Gabe knows that she should be with Luc. As much as that thought tears him up inside, he knows that as a Dominion he and Frannie can never be. And so he chooses someone to be her Guardian. Someone he knows cares about Frannie and will make sure to protect her just as he would.

Just because her Guardian is new doesn't mean he can't protect Frannie, even with Hell's demons coming after her to get to Luc. But Gabe never expected King Lucifer to send the most prized weapon in his arsenal.

And he never knew just how wrong things would go or he would have stayed, no matter the risk to himself. Because being claimed by Hell would have been far less great a price to pay than the one that was exacted.

Lisa Desrochers has absolutely done it again. Original Sin is even more intense, more provocative and more electrifying than Personal Demons. The story is a nail-biter and will keep readers tied in knots, long after they've reached the final page.

The story switches between each of the main character's perspectives, giving readers the greatest insight about what's going on. The author drops enough hints to make readers aware of all that is happening while the characters remain in the dark, building tension and making this an even more torturous and anxiety-filled read.

The story ends in a major cliffhanger that will keep fans of this series in torment until the final book in the series is released.

Original Sin is an absolute must read for fans of stories about dreamy angels, delicious demons, steamy love triangles, and ones that will keep them on edge from beginning to end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reading with Tequila July 10, 2011
Format:Paperback
Original Sin weaves an insanely interesting back story with slightly predictable plot progression, resulting in a great book that doesn't quite reach the level of intensity Personal Demons achieved. My one complaint: not enough Gabe!

Original Sin is a very good follow up to Personal Demons. Lisa Desrochers did a wonderful job of maintaining the feel of the first book while keeping the story moving forward. I loved the way new information was incorporated seamlessly with the things we already know from the previous book. The highlight of the entire book for me was the big reveal about Frannie's family. Epic, yet totally fitting.

I found the actual plot specific to Original Sin to be predictable, but how other readers react to it will be based on how well versed they are in biblical history. I knew who and what Lili was well before the hinting began and guessed immediately what that was going to mean to both Matt and Luc. Luckily, this basic knowledge wasn't the only thing going on in Original Sin. Taylor's role in this book, start to finish, was completely unforeseen and I loved every scene with her.

Gabe went away for a while in Original Sin and it was sad for both Frannie and myself. I absolutely love him and that he would gladly give his wings up to be with Frannie. Sadly, the outlook for this event doesn't look so good. Frannie loves Luc. Or does she? It's getting a bit on my nerves that she doesn't seem to have a clear preference one way or another. She loves Luc, but when he's gone and Gabe's around - she loves and lusts after him. Both boys seem to give Frannie to one another, like an object rather than a person. There is a lot of - I must go, she's yours now - going on in Original Sin that would be more fitting for a dude gifting another dude his car while he's away at college rather than the girl he supposedly loves. Frannie doesn't seem to mind the passing back and forth, but why would she as she loves them both seemingly equally? Or maybe my real problem with the love triangle is that she's not with the guy I want her to be with. Because, Luc, yeah, I don't see the appeal.

Original Sin offers up some heart-wrenching scenes and is a fantastic addition to the overall series story line. It's not destined to become my favorite book in this series (as Personal Demons holds that title unless the next book is dripping with awesome) but it's a great read nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars delightful teen paranormal romantic suspense July 5, 2011
Format:Paperback
Luc Cain came from hell to collect Frannie Cavanaugh's soul while Gabe came from heaven to do likewise. Neither expected Frannie to have her own guardian angel Matt who was her twin brother before dying in childhood; or that Luc would fall in love with Frannie and shockingly give up brimstone for shaving cuts when her Magical Sway had him obsessed with being become human (see Personnel Demons).

As Gabe returns to heaven to avoid Frannie's temptation, raging King Lucifer exhales fire over the traitor Luc. He sends a demon horde to bring him the betrayer on a platter. More important to the ruler of Hell is to capture the essence that turned his former loyal follower into a mortal. While Matt has lost concentration because of his attraction to Luc's sexy next door neighbor Lili, the demons attack Frannie and her friends.

Rotating perspectives between the wins and the former demon, Original Sin is a delightful teen paranormal romantic suspense. Frannie is a terrific character whose magical sway has Heaven and Hell wondering what is going on. However Luc steals the show as he struggles with adjusting to human hygiene. Fans will enjoy encounters of the first kind between mortals and heavenly and hellish guests and hosts.
