The Postal Exam 473 (and the same test with a different number 473-C) is the brand new (December 2004) standard test used by the Postal Service to fill all fulltime Processing, Distribution, Delivery, and Retail Postal jobs. While the test is like a lot of other standardized tests, it has been specially written for the Postal Service. It has specialized parts that directly relate to Postal services such as tests that have to do with route sorting mail, memory tests that are based on ZIP Codes and addresses, and filling out forms that are specific to the Postal Service.

This book is produced in three versions to suit your study preferences. These are:

The Original Postal Exam 473 & 473-C Study Guide -- This version is text only. It has reference material and sample exams with many test taking tips.

Complete Postal Exam 473 & 473-C Training Program with 2 Test Prep Audio CD's -- This is the same book, but two audio CD's read it to you while you follow along in the book. Using two senses, eyes and ears increase the retention of information.

New Postal Exam 473 & 473-C Computer-Based Course -- This is again the same book, but there is a CD that contains both test prep classes and realiztic practice exams, you'll need an internet ready PC with Windows to use this version.

I just received this book and the 473 & 473-C Computer-Based Course and have found out that the books are identical except for the CD-Rom. So don't waste your money buying both. The book provides six practice exams for parts A (address checking), part B (forms completion), and part C (coding and memory). It does not give any detailed information regarding Part D (personal characteristics and experience inventory). This seems like a good start for learning how to pass the exam but I don't know for sure. I bought this book to help my son pass the new test since I already work for the Post Office and my old study books for the old 470 exam are no longer any good.

This book has 6 sample tests exactly like the postal test answer sheets and all. It has excellent tips and techniques that apply specifically to the 473/473c test. I only bought the book. The book was a Godsend and is a must buy for any 473/473c test taker. I was able to answer all the questions on the 473 test with time to go back and check some answers on all sections. I couldn't have done it without this book! I was more than prepared. :)
The is the best studyguide and is much better than the rest! I know I bought another by Arco called, "Postal Exams" and it was not as good as this one.

This book helps prepare you for every section of the 473 and 473-C Postal Exam. The toughest section of the exam is the address memory section. This book provides a great strategy for this part of the test. I only had 2 days to prepare using this book and it worked for me.

I used this book. I took the 473 C exam. I got a very good score. I got called in for an interview about 3 months after getting my test results back. Make no mistake about it that you need to score very well to be where i am and the only way to do that is by preparing for the test. Don't expect to do well by just showing up on test date and "giving your best effort". This is not that type of test. It's the type of test where practice is the key. And this book is by far the best study guide for the 473 exam. It's not even close. I tried a few others and it's blatantly obvious how little they know do about the ins and outs of this test. The author has personally taken this test dozens of times and his knowledge of the postal office and how it operates in general is very deep. So if you are serious about getting a great score on this exam, you need to get this book.

How can I put this? I got the job!!! If you only buy one book this year, other than the new Harry Potter one obviously, then THIS is the book to buy. Of course I am assuming that you WANT to have a job with double the pay of any other entry level job, immediate full benefits, and job security out the "wazoo".

I used Mr. Parnell's book as an aid in preparing for the 473-c postal exam. I read it cover to cover, went through each of the practice exams, and found that my confidence and speed improved dramatically with each testing. After grading my practice exams my scores went from the high 80's to the high 90's. This book is a godsend!

When I went to take the real exam, I wasn't nervous; I was prepared! I found that I was completely at ease and that I was able to focus on the questions, rather than the jitters. Mr. Parnell's book is precisely the same format and question types that you will see on the current exam.

After receiving my score back from the post office (6 weeks is about normal), I had my first interview within a month. The interviewer informed me that my score was the highest (unadjusted for military service) that he had seen! Oh, did I mention, I got the job!!!

I was SO satisfied with this study guide, I'm now looking at the other study guides in preparation for advancement exams to help with promotions to higher paying positions as well.

Buy the book. The very first hour you work at your new job will pay for it twice over. How can afford not to?

This book is the best study guide. It helped me achieve one of the highest scores in the country. I would not have been able to do it without it. It is easy to understand, the tips are great and the format is exactly like the real test.

Nice book really told it how it was although I am not so sure about the method for the memorizing part that is something you have to find your own niche. Good book I scored well on the first attempt it was worth the money.

I actually bought three books to help me study for the Postal exam. This book was the best. It has the most current information, the most practice exams and great helpful hints. I scored very well on my postal exam and my thanks to Mr. Parnell for writing this book and keeping his books up to date with the Postal hiring process. Of course there is no guarantee with my getting hired but at least I studied, practiced the sample Postal tests and was confident when my test date came. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in scoring well on a postal exam. I also purchased Mr. Parnell's Timed Practice Test Audio CD and this helped tremendously in timing my practice tests. Best of Luck to future Postal exam takers.

This study guide gives anyone the opportunity to excel on the subject exam. The test-taking strategies and practice tests are perfect, almost uncanny, examples of the actual postal examination you will see in person. Even having to prepare on very short-notice can be made less stressful when reading and following the advice printed in T.W. Parnell's study guide. The author has "been there-done this" and teaches from a position of experience, not hype, not speculation. Read the study guide, take the advice and strategies "to the bank, " put forth the effort. Use the practice tests, put forth the effort, and you will succeed. Your success is only as good as the effort you expend towards achieving a great score, instead of being satisfied with "passing." I tested with over 300 people and very few walked out confidently, most were just shaking their heads sadly disappointed. I spoke with a few and they had already failed this test multiple times. I was eager to recommend this study guide and will continue to do so. A top score can be achieved even on this most difficult exam, if you're willing to use this guide and follow advice and be pro-active in your preparation. Don't waste your money on other guides and accessories, this is the REAL thing.
