5.0 out of 5 stars Garden Railroad Lifesaver
I purchased this item specifically to clip a hybrid Bermuda grass developed for golf courses. It is installed on an outdoor model railroad. The grass must be clipped closely at least every other day. I had been doing it manually until I received the Power CS18. This tool has made this chore a breeze. Moreover, the grass clipper also does an excellent job on an Asian...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK - but not great
Bought this item for clipping beach grass , which gets thicker every year. Did an ok job , but felt like it was already getting dull after 20 mins of use. The grass shears for regular trimming around , shrubs worked great, but the power only lasted about 15 minutes before it died. I think there are probably better items for around the same money out there. If this had...

If this had been 29.99, it would have been worth it , but I think it is overpriced for the power output and the quality of the product.

1.0 out of 5 stars No lasting power, April 25, 2008
This review is from: Original Power CS18 4-Inch 6-Volt Cordless Grass Shear with 6-Inch Shrub Trimmer Attachment (Lawn & Patio)
We bought one of these several years ago, and it worked very well for about 3 years. The battery finally would not hold a charge, so we bought another one last fall. its battery will only hold a charge for about 5-8 minutes. I looked at the battery packs, and discovered that the old battery pack was a 2500 mAH(milli-amp hours) Ni-MH(nickel metal hydroxide (better) unit, and the new one is only 1800 mAH, Ni-Cd(not as good as Ni-MH) type. So they have cheapened the device, but not lowered the price. I will try and find a clippers similar to this one, but with an extention cord. Don't buy this thing, as it is a waste of time and money.

This is an excellent tool for yard work. I have used it to trim my hedges, trim weeds, and it really works great! It is very powerful, the battery is also lasting before needing a recharge. Worth every cent!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unit Failed, July 1, 2009

Unit is just over two years old - by a couple of months. Is hardly used and probably has not seen 10-12 hours of service.

It failed. I call. You need a new charger I am told. Buy a charger and pay shipping.

Still does not work. You need a new battery I am told. I buy a new battery; they waive the shipping.

Still does not work - push button and nothing happens.

Call them again. Maybe the motor burnt out. I take the unit apart - pretty simple thing and I am kinda mechanical. Clean as a whistle inside. All connections solid and motor is clean copper.

I call them back. We can't do anything about it as it is out of warranty - even a day out and they would not do a thing.

Can send battery and charger back with re-stocking charge and me pay shipping. Hardly worth it.

Ask if they can at least meet me part way on new one. Can't do that.

I spent 32 years in corporate marketing and I clearly remember two things we emphasized. "Can't" usually means "won't". Yes, they can do it if they care to.

Secondly, the customer may not always be right, but he IS always the customer.

They could care less.

All I wanted was a little break on a new one to help cover the costs of what I bought based on their analysis.

Oh, when it worked; it worked great.

So I have to buy a new one from someone and sure need to find a better one.

This product is more durable and powerful than the B&D version. It has one housing with battery with inter-changeable blades where the B&D is two seperate houseings with non-inter-changeable blades. I have had this company's grass shears before and would definitely buy this brand again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied, September 14, 2005
This review is from: Original Power CS18 4-Inch 6-Volt Cordless Grass Shear with 6-Inch Shrub Trimmer Attachment (Lawn & Patio)
The price was right and I love the ease that it takes to change the blades. It really cuts out the time spent trimming both bushes and grass. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cant ask for more for the Price, October 8, 2007
This review is from: Original Power CS18 4-Inch 6-Volt Cordless Grass Shear with 6-Inch Shrub Trimmer Attachment (Lawn & Patio)
This is a great little clipper. I have only used the hedge trimmers and think it is a great product. I purchased this after trimming over 20 boxwoods with a hand trimmer and got tired of a sore hand. It is a great size and not too heavy. I have had this for about 2 years. I get about 1 1/2 hours worth of trimming on a charge. I also trim burning bushes and spirea with it. I have recommended this to a friend and would purchase again.

Nice that this comes with both a clipper and a shrubber. Easy to work with. A must is also the extension handle so that all clipping can be done while standing. A real help to a senior citizen with arthritis.

Performs as described, handles light trimming well and is much lighter and less awkward to use than a string trimmer/hedge trimmer. After giving the yard a good going over with the heavy duty trimmers this is all I need to keep it maintained. It needs recharging after a half hour or so, but that's fine with me. I don't like yard work that much!

I had some problems with it out of the box, which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars. The charger connector ports weren't lined up properly with the pins on the tool. As a result it wasn't charging properly and I was only getting 5 minutes of use out of it. It fits snugly in the charging cradle and there's no indicator light to tell if it's charging. I was ready to return it. I suspected a connection problem so finally I got a screwdriver out and detached the charging plug from the cradle. There's just 2 little screws. It was then obvious it wasn't plugging in properly. I had to straighten the center prong out and it's worked great ever since. I didn't bother reattaching the receptacle to the cradle. I like it better without it and I can verify it's plugged in.

Replacement battery packs aren't that difficult to find. It's a common 5 cell, 6 volt, 1800mAh NiCD Receiver Battery Pack. They go for about $24 and can be found in hobby shops. It's the same battery used in the DuraTrax Firehammer RC car. Sanyo makes one, part number San.1800.6

It's a good little trimmer. But I'll think twice before buying another product from this manufacturer due to the quality control issues. It's also ridiculous that they don't make the replacement battery pack readily available.
