Sarai killing the Critics about white females rapping,
By Jennifer (San Jose, Ca USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Original (Audio CD)
When i first heard about sarai i was like aiight lets see if you she could hold her own, and without a doubt she did just that, when you look at her and then listen to her rap, your just left in a daze. "The Original" is a great way to showcase just how well sarai can shut down all those types that say "shes white she cant rap" The CD starts off with a nice hit called "I know" which is a good song about how she looks shouldn't matter how well she can rap, and thus with the first line "im a bout to shock the world" and she did just that. Next is "Mind Ya Business" then the hit "Ladies" with is a nice summer song for us ladies. "What Mama Told me", and "It's not a fairytale" shows just how her stuggle was in life. "Pack Ya Bags" is a hit for us females that wanna get that cheating man outta our lifes. "Swear" is by far my fav. cause i can relate to it so much and it show ms. Sarai Singing a little. "you could never", and "L.I.F.E", which are two nice songs, but not a hit. "Its Offical" is nothing but a hit, cause this is her song about how she made it in the bussiness, and this song really showcase how well/fast sarai can rap. The next song gets you thinking BIG time its called "Mary Anna" its about a young person not fitting in whith their peers and having parents that hurt/beat them, and at the end kills themself. this song got he in a daze for a while after listening to it. "Black & White" is a good end to a great CD cause its shows the lines of Black & white and how it shouldn't matter, when some one has skills like Sarai. If you like Rap and wanna her someone that comes with raps like you never heard get "The Original" by Sarai you will not be disappointed

Sarai -- The Original,
By "d_aro" (Dallas, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Original (Audio CD)
Sarai Howard who has been dubbed - the female version of Eminem "Feminem". Proves she is no Eminem and intends to keep it that way. She's the first white female-rapper represented by a major record label. Her debut album "The Original" released under Epic Records is a soft-core, hip-hop, dance album. From the very hip-hop/pop "Ladies". To a very guitar-flavored track titled "Mary Anne" about child abuse. To a very fire-flowing "It's Official" which proves that you don't have to be a certain color to through-out some hard-core rhymes. Unlike other female-rapper predecessor before her (ie. Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, Charli Baltimore, Missy E) Sarai proves she can be original. Instead of lyrics about sex and money. Sarai writes about things that she sees. "You can't limit yourself to your own life story. Sometimes you have to put yourself in an-other person's place and think, how would she feel about this?" she says. Is the world ready for a white-female rapper? Only time will tell. This albums will leave you wanting more. -- SaraiFans.com

HATAZ READ THIS! I GOT QUESTIONZ 4 YALL...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Original (Audio CD)
How many of deez hataz that are NOT saying nice things about Sarai, have a CD out on the record store shelves let alone a song that is tearin it up across the country? Thats what I thought... Who cares what color she is & since when was rap or any kind of music a black or white issue?
White female rappers don't have an exactly stellar track record in hip-hop music and culture. Remember Icy Blu? Or Tairrie B? Perhaps you are a fan of Princess Superstar, one of the few to gain a modicum of credibility, or you remember the pioneering old school rap of Debbie Harry on "Rapture." Still it's funny that when I Google searched the phrase "white female rappers" to refresh my own memory about this hip-hop minority, the phrase "Trivial Pursuit" kept coming up in every article - perhaps rightly so. Trying to name half-a-dozen of these rare MC's might stump even Ego Trip's vaunted "Book of Rap Lists." Sarai hasn't been intimidated by these long odds, and she's worked her way up from unknown to nationally recognized artist with the release of "The Original." Looking at the strawberry blonde's piercing gaze staring out from the cover, one might think first of Shania Twain or Celine Dion; but when hearing the lead single "Ladies" you'll change that perception quickly. Produced by Ali Dee, the track has a horny horn Slip-N-Slide feel that gives white girl a distinctly Trina sound. Sarai's got the lyrics, the flow, and the personality to connect with her audience. Among the already rarified air of female MC's, this places her at Mt. Everest like heights. And while her album is not blessed by names like Just Blaze and Kanye West, she does get some help from Scott Storch on the "I Know," the Dr. Dre like song "You Could Never," the sultry "L.I.F.E." featuring Jaguar Wright, and the hardcore "Black & White" where she challenges all her critics. Even if you don't recognize names like LJ 'Chocolate Starr' Sutton and Brandon 'B-Stylz' McKinney, they do a fine job on songs like the triple time style "It's Official" and the heartfelt reminiscing of "Mary Anne" featuring Black Coffey. What's the bottom line on Sarai? Two things sum up this album: appearances can be and often ARE deceiving, and the perception of white female rappers automatically being whack should now be shut down for GOOD. Sarai's album arrived on store shelves quietly, but it makes a loud statement when listened to. You may not be ready for Sarai, but she's ready for the rap world and wins by not being intimidated by the challenge of getting over - she just intimidates it right back.

this cd is off da hook,
This review is from: Original (Audio CD)
Finally, a female rapper who enters the rap game and knows what REAL RAP is about. This CD is off da hook, ignore what amazon.com gave it. This is truly a 5 star album. Sarai knows what to give to the world and she delivers her work very, very well. Every song is hot and banging- some makes you think, some makes you want to change the world, others can get your groove on, which is what I like about this album. It really sets the mood. Her lyrics are something, better than any other female have ever come up with (no, Lil' Kim is not a great lyricist. She only talks about sex which is not RAP). I feel her on most of the tracks. She delivers her work as if she is a black woman. Honestly, when I heard "Ladiez" on the radio, I thought this was a black girl singing but seeing the video, I found out she is white, which shocked me to the fullest. A white woman sounding like a black girl? That's something you hardly get around here! I like the sounds of Sarai's music. It's soft, hardcore, banging and mellow. I don't know why many people are hating on her just because she "tries too hard to be a black person". Man, y'all don't know what your talking about. Don't hate on her just because of this. In fact, she isn't even trying to be a black woman. Listen to "It's Official" and you'll see what I'm talking about. I see a lot of talent in this woman and I hope she gets as big as 2Pac did, we hardly have any female rappers in the game today. I would rate her the best female rapper so far because she's the only female rapper who know what rap is about. Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown don't impress me, Princess Superstar is just another Lil' Kim wannabe, Eve's music doesn't appeal to my taste in rap music, Missy Elliot sounds a bit weird and her videos are whacked up to the meanest and Lady of Rage has disappeared, she use to be my favorite female rapper but she has all of a sudden disappeared. Where the HELL R U LADY OF RAGE??Anyways banging tracks on this CD are LADIEZ, IT'S OFFICIAL, FAIRYTALE, MARY ANNE, PACK YA BAGS, L.I.F.E, MIND YA BUSINESS and WHAT MAMA TOLD ME. Honestly, you're looking at a future top-seller, the next best female rapper. This album will tell you the reasons why. Ignore the critics, stick to what you believe is true. Tupac Amaru Shakur and Christopher 'The Notorious B.I.G.' Wallace- Rest in Peace brothers. Stop the Gunfight...

Gosh, don't say a "white girl can't rap", because in this case this one can. Sarai has busted onto the sence with alot of force and she's ready to take over. Sarai can rhyme to the fullest! When I heard the song "Ladies" I swear I though it was a black female rapper, then come to find out it was a white girl, just going the hell off on the mic like that is just da bomb!!! cause i'm black, and she had me so fooled. but the music is just the da bomb, so make sure u all pick this one up you won't regret it!

...a female Em? quite possibly.,
This review is from: Original (Audio CD)
Upon hearing the hip hop blasts 'Ladies' and 'Pack Ya Bags' without any information on their artist, I thought for sure this must be a black rapper on her rise. Then I looked up some info on Sarai.Nothing prepared me. Seriously, upon hearing the raps in Original's tracks, you'd never think the artist behind the music would be a white girl originally from New York. But nevertheless, that's the case here, and I can definitely see her following up and becoming a big name.

"See, Ya'll White Girls Have Hip-Hop Talent",
By Chris Sauer (Calgary Canada) - See all my reviews

Ok, Yes This CD Is A Little Weird, Sarai A Strawberry Blonde White Girl Releases A CD Titled "The Origina;" Come On Bring On The Insults, But Really This CD Is mostly All In Check And Honestly This Girl Has "Some" talent. Ok Sarai Is Not As Good As My Girl Foxy Brown But She Does Have Some Skills, When I heard "ladies" On The Radio i Thought The CD Was Gonna Just Be Filler And party Tracks But Seriously Sari Has Been Through Some Stuff. The Songs "I Know" And "Black And White" Are A Great Introduction To This Artist Sarai Lets Us Know Shes White And Why She Entered The rap game Without Over-Dwelling On It. The Beats On This CD Are At Times Amazing And At Times Annoying As Hell, On "What mama Told Me", Sarai Trys To get "nasty" And It Doesnt Work The Lyrics Are Wack And The Beat Is Disgusting. "It's Not A Fairytale", I Could Liten To that Song 50 Times In A Row And Not Be Tired Of It, Sarai Lets The Content Of Her Life be Known, She Tells You All About Her Life And Confesses All On That Song. "Mary Anne" My favorite Song On The Album May Just be The Most "Emotional" Song Of The Year, It is About A Young Girl That Was Abbused By parents, teachers, Kids, And Basically Everyone, One Day Sarai Decided To her friend The Frienship Lasted A Couple Of days, Thaan She Wouldnt Talk To Her, In Junior Hgh Mary Anne Got All fake And Eventually Killed Herself In the Bathroom, It Saddened Me The First Time I heard It. "Pack ya Bags" is Good For Girls But Its Another Junky Leave That Guy relationship Song, Its Good But Its Not Its Weird! "L.I.F.E." featuring/ Jaguar Wright Is Another Emotional Song And Perhaps the 2nd Best Song on this CD, Jaguar Sort of Scares Me On The Chorus Because She Has Such A Different Voice, And Sarai talks About Many various Problems In the Song, Its Very Good. "Mind Ya Bussiness" is Good But The Chorus Is Annoying As Hell, Her Lyrics To Scat Off All Nosy People Are Well Written. Speaking Of The Writting This CD Has Good Lyrics But They Arent As Innovative That They'll Confuse You And Actually Make You Think, They're Are A Few Songs That U have To Think About But Mostly This CD Is Touch And Go And Easy To Understand Which i Good At Times, I Sure Hope Sarai Is Not A One Hit Wonder I'd Love To Hear More From Her. This CD Is Reccomended If U Were Thinking Of Purchasing It, DO IT! Chris (15 year Old Music Fan)

I swear that Sarai truly is Original!,

I finally got my hands on the debut album by Sarai, and I have to say that I loved every single track, from the Intro to 'Black & White' this album is off da hook! My only complaint is that there are only 12 songs on there, cuz by the time I reached the last track I was hungry for more! Don't get it twisted, this girl has got major league skills, with a style that truly original and her own. Don't try to compare her to anyone else, cuz when it comes to Sarai, there is no comparison. Don't even try to compare her to Eminem, the only thing that she has in common with Slim Shady is the color of their skin. The album itself is balanced well with bass-thumping tracks meant to get the party started, songs of female empowerment and independence, along with rhymes that deal with the darker and deeper subject matters of child abuse and teen pregnancy. Sarai has got a bright future, so by all means, cop the album you won't regret it! |
