4.0 out of 5 stars Good activity book.......but math is a little too easy
I have been using the summer bridge activity books for both of my children for the last couple of years. I think the books for primary grade children could be a little more challenging in the math area. Once you get to the 3rd-4th grade level they seem to be pretty close to school curriculum. If you are thinking of buying this for your k-3rd grade student you may find...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as Thorough As It Could Be
The bridge workbook is good, but there is only one page per day - it's not extemely thorough. It takes my step-daughter less than 10 minutes to complete the page every day - I had hoped the book would provide her with 20 - 30 minutes of review. The content is there, but I would like to see it expanded to a page of math and a page of language arts and handwriting...

5.0 out of 5 stars Continue the skills - Summer Bridge, June 29, 2006
This review is from: The Original Summer Bridge Activities: 2nd to 3rd Grade (Paperback)
I use summer bridge every year. It is the most comprehensive book I have bought. I like that each page has a variety of subject matter and that it starts simple and gets more complex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Summer Studies = Summer Fun, May 7, 2007
This review is from: The Original Summer Bridge Activities: 2nd to 3rd Grade (Paperback)
My daughter and I have used this series for five years now. The older she gets the more she enjoys her summer studies. This book is great! It is always broken down into three sections and has reward charts to track progress. We also love the Summer Reading List in the book, and look the books up at our local library. I really enjoy the Better Bodies Better Behavior section and the flash cards as well. Each day's work and reading takes less than an hour. Definately worth the money, get it every year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Summer Learning Books, June 18, 2008

My husband and I get workbooks for our kids every summer and these are by far the best ones we have gotten. There is a page (front and back) for each day and every day includes some type of math skill, and reading or english skills. There is enough work to help keep the kids in practice but not so much that they feel overwhelmed. The book reviews what they learned in the grade they just completed and gradually starts introducing them to the skills they will be learning in the next grade. I think getting a taste of what is coming up makes it all just a little less intimidating and helps them get a little head start. We liked these books so much we have already purchased the workbooks for next summer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great to keep little minds busy, but not very challenging, June 18, 2009

I really like these books, they have a variety of activities each day, and take the right amount of time to keep the kids' minds active, without them feeling like they are in school. It is summer break, after all! However, I do wish these books were a bit more challenging, as this one is too easy for my 2nd going on 3rd grader, even as review. I do wish I would have gotten the next level up. My son is doing a level up for his age (K-1st) and it's just right for him. I would recommend paging through a copy, if possible, before purchasing to make sure the activities are at the right level for your children. I highly recommend this series, along with daily read-aloud, to keep the kids fresh over the summer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great workbook for summer!, June 7, 2008

We have used summer bridge now for the last 6 years every summer. My kids love the books and it is great motivation to keep learning over the summer. They really enjoy the goal setting that the books have and they like that they can choose their reward when they reach their goal. I have them do a page a day, but sometimes they want to 3 or 4 pages so they can reach their goal sooner and recieve their reward. The rewards aren't always tangible things either, sometimes it is going on a bike ride as a family, or going down to the river to swing on the rope, etc. They have learned that you don't always have to spend money to have a fun reward for work done well!! We love summer bridge!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for long summer breaks, November 9, 2011

I bought this book for a student I work with that is austistic. He does well in school as long as he continues to be learning during the long summer break. If is just perfect to keep children from falling back on what was learned during the school year. I strongly recommend this book to any parent that is concerned about their childs progress (and not just children with disabilities).

5.0 out of 5 stars Summer time School review, September 26, 2011

Got these for grandchildren over the summer to keep them occupied and prepare them for the next year of school. They enjoyed working in them, and one grandchild said she noticed one specific area that helped her in the following year of school. Well worth the money, which was reasonable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Summer Bridge is great if you have a willing student, July 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Original Summer Bridge Activities: 2nd to 3rd Grade (Paperback)
I bought these books for my daughter, who will be going into 3rd grade and my son, going into 6th. Daughter loves the books and willingly does the excercises. She loves school. Son dreads doing the work but he also is not fond of school. The workbooks are eye opening. If, in the very beginning, the child is struggling, it makes you wonder-what did they do in school this year!
Worthwhile purchase. Will continue to purchase every summer.
