This probably the best umbrella stand I've seen for use in the grass or dirt.

Pros:
1. The tines are very easy to anchor into even very hard turf by just stepping on the stand.
2. Great for soccer games, picnics, baseball games
3. Can be used with any umbrella.

Cons:
1. It's made of metal and a little heavy.(but it's really sturdy)
2. As another reviewer noted, it's not great for soft sand. You may have to dig a little hole first and then anchor it.
3. I wish there was a cover for the anchor points for when you carry it around. I just put a bag on the end so I don't poke anyone.

Overall it's a great umbrella stand that my family uses every weekend at the kids' games and practices.

I love the "Original Umbrella Stand"! I chose this after much research, and have used it dozens of times, in all weather conditions.

Pros:

High Quality: Made of High Quality Steel (All parts, including Thumbscrews, are metal: Meaning No Plastic to strip or break!!) Scratch Resistant Finish: Despite heavy use, still looks and performs "Like New"!

Easy to Use: I bought this for use in parks and fields, and therefore my review is based on use in Grass and hard packed soil (not sand.) Simply place it where you want it, step down easily on each side until the spikes are in and the top plate is flat against the ground: Easy! Takes very little effort, and stays put.

Stays put, even fully loaded during storms! I really load this stand up with a 7 foot Beach Umbrella with heavy things hanging from 4 umbrella hooks ("Umbrella Hooks for Towels/Camera/Bags": Just Great!) and an Umbrella Table loaded with drinks & gear. Even with all this "stuff", my umbrella and Stand have never moved, even during wind and heavy rain storms!

Versatile: You can use it with one umbrella in either the vertical or slanted holder, OR, you can use 2 beach umbrellas at once (one vertical & one tilted)! Note: A beach umbrella and a smaller golf-type umbrella will not work together: They must both be beach umbrellas.

Size: With a 7 foot beach umbrella in the vertical position, 4 foldable camp chairs sit closely but comfortably around the pole in the shade.

Cons:

Because it's a quality steel product, it's heavy, and with the spikes, it is a little cumbersome to carry and store. Solution: "The Original Umbrella Stand Bag" on Amazon or at umbrellastands.

GOT TO LOVE THIS! IT HAS BEEN A LIFE SAVER FOR THOSE DAYS AT THE SOCCER FIELD WHERE THE GRASS IS AS HARD AS A ROCK. A MUST HAVE!! CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE IT TO THE BEACH!

We bought this to use at the soccer field. It works great with our 6' umbrella and supports it even when we place the umbrella in the angled opening. Even with a breeze the stand held up. I would recommend it highly. Find something cheap, to go along with it, to get free shipping.

i have only used this in the dirt.. not in the sand.. i take it to my son's soccer games. i have not had a problem with it so far.. it is easy to put in the ground and then place my umbrella in the base and screw it tight.. has held up good so far in the wind.. maybe a nice extra would be a carrying bag. very pleased with this buy..

This is a must have for your beach umbrella. We bought this stand to go with our 8' beach umbrella from amazon. It works well in the grass or sand. Makes installing the umbrella an easy task. Good price.

Biggest problem- This is a very heavy item to carry to the beach! I like the product design but the 'spikes' are too short for a sandy beach. I dug down and buried it and added a sand bag tied to the pole to keep it from falling over. I will save it for grassy spots at the park perhaps but I would not buy it with the experience that I have have after a week of use. I looked at the 'screw type' at the beach, they are also not perfect in the wind and need a sand bag, but at least it is lighter to carry.

This is the best umbrella stand. This is the second one that we have purchased (we gave the other one to a friend). They hold the umbrella steady and are easy to use, even in the hardest of dirt.

We have used this stand for our scout flags and have gotten many questions and complements on the stand. It holds up well even at week long camps.

This worked really well for us at the beach. It's very sturdy and appears to be well made. I found that I needed to dig down into the sand about 6-10 inches and then put the stand into the hole, and cover up the base, and the umbrella was stable and sturdy all day, even when it was a bit windy.
