Like a World Series Hero,
By P.W. (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Orioles Fan's Little Book of Wisdom (Paperback)
Every baseball fan knows that World Series heroics are often delivered by a small bat that steps up at the right moment and delivers. This little book is sort of like those unlikely heroes. I enjoyed this for two reasons. First, each page is a single shining moment in Orioles lore. The big heavy books on baseball can be deadly boring because the writer feels obligated to tell every last drab detail for accuracy's sake. We don't care! Bucky Fox has mastered the art of being interesting and to the point. Second, the Orioles have a great tradition. When they're riding high, they play smart baseball and clean-fielding baseball. Maybe the O's aren't there now, but this book is a reminder that they can and will be. Finally, my own personal test for a book is twofold: Will I read it again just for fun? (Yes.) Can I think of someone else who would also love this book? (Yes, my former barber from my long-gone days in Indiana. If you're reading this, Bruce, this book will be like a cold, longneck beer for you. Buy it along with a beer, and you'll be in heaven.)
