Product Description

Product Description

With a wide 50-deg apparent field, our Sirius Plossl line of eyepieces provide clear, sharp images of impressively high contrast. They're suitable all telescope types: reflector, refractor, and catadioptric. Each 4-element Sirius Plossl is fully coated with magnesium fluoride on every air-to-glass surface. Lens edges are blackened to reduce scattering of stray light and maximize contrast. Lenses are mounted in black anodized aluminum housings with 1.25" chrome-plated brass barrels. Each is fitted with rubber eyeguards and internally threaded to accept standard filters.

Plossls are wonderful tools to begin the hobby with. They're generally less expensive than other designs, and are fairly easy to manufacture, which is why there's a lot of bad ones out there with crap for quality.

The standard Orion Plossls are very good eyepieces, and will yield excellent views. Their price equals about the middle of the scale in the world of Plossls, and so does their quality. Their price/quality score is very good. There are better Plossls, but at a higher price.

Unfortunately, Orion stopped offering their best eyepiece several years ago - the "Ultrascopic", which was (by accident) one of the best Plossl-design eyepieces on the market, and to this day remains a desired item in the trade & swap market. It was made in Japan. The glass and coatings in this eyepiece are superb, and I suspect Orion was losing money on it in manufacturing cost. I have one in 30mm, and it's my "goto" first choice eyepiece on almost any given night.

That being said, their current line of Plossls are suitable, and priced well. I have a 32mm, and I keep it handy, but I will always reach for the Ultrascopic first.

This eyepiece Barlows better than some others, which is testimony to its construction (many Plossls don't Barlow well). The build quality is excellent, and the views are clear, almost completely to the edges, and without color distortion. I recommend this eyepiece for anyone starting up, who wants to save a few dollars. It'll provide very good medium/low power views in just about any telescope.

Not as good as an Ultrascopic or a Televue, but MUCH better than some of the garbage that floods the market these days.

Recommended.

My scope came with two eyepieces (10 mm and 20 mm) so I wanted to get one around 30 mm. I found this one and the one review said it was pretty nice. I took a chance and got it and I am so very pleased. This is now my favorite eyepiece. My wife and I wear glasses and we have no problems using this eyepiece with our glasses on. The build quality is impressive.

I already had a 32mm Plossl that I had gotten in a Celestron accessory kit, but it would show double images of bright objects, so I got this one instead. It is a vast inprovement. Beautiful clarity with minimal distortion and the right price. It feels sturdy and well-made. A Plossl is a must need for every astronomer, and this one is perfect.

always with great view. I have a number of plossls made by orion although i use a scope by celestron.
Quality and built is great. Solid metal and plastic construction. With the kind of reputation these two competitors have, i trust I will not have any quality issues with these eyepieces for years to come.

This is a wonderful eyepiece, I had a 32mm Zhumel eyepiece that I wasn't happy with, the stars weren't points but big blurrs.. So I bought this Orion Sirius Plossl to replace the Zhumel an the view is fantastic, the stars are points of light and it is exactly what I was looking for!
