This book is essentially a self-important book report! The auuthor has perused several touchstone books in the realm of alternative science, specifically those having to do with end times prophesies, cataclysms, and pole shifts! Notable among these are works by Hapgood, Bauval, and Flem-Ath!

Do yourself a favor, read the originals! This book adds nothing new to the discussion! Rather, it serves as a "book report" on the work of others, presented in breathless style, with 15 exclamation points on every page! What is up with all the exclamation points?! I could have lived with less punctution and more, I don't know, ideas! Since I've read most of the books this reports on, it was ultimately pointless!

Start with Charles Hapgood and the Flem-Ath book, When the Wky Fell!

THis is perhaps do to the polarizing nature of the subject and the many fears that people tend to harbor. I found this book to be very illuminating and a confirmation to something that I already knew from either other sources or from pure insight. But regardless of the numerous reviews here nothing can take away from the fact that the Mayan calendar ends in the year 2012? Coincidence? THe book was not written for a scientific journal, so it does sound speculative at times, but once you read and understand the implications and the sources from which the authors have drawn their data, it is highly illuminating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but Horrible Math, August 8, 2006
By
Rob (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Orion Prophecy: Will the World Be Destroyed in 2012? (Paperback)
Lots has already been said about the book in reviews, good and bad, so I won't go into my own opinion. I did however, want to say something about the mathematical side of the proofs used in this book, since many people without mathematical backgrounds seemed interested in the validity of this aspect of the author's claims.

The math used in this book is "correct" as far as the calculations themselves go. The author's addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are correctly figured as written. The problem though, is that Where he gets his numbers from, and the Reasons behind his figures and logic-chains unfortunately has NO logical validity.

Numbers and math can be manipulated however people see fit; that's what mathematics is good for - manipulation. Much like how we can formulate any sentence we like in a language, even if the sentence is grammatically correct that does not mean that it conveys a fact.

Purple bananas sometimes have evil intentions; cats with feet on their head instead of ears should be wary of them.

This could be a grammatically correct example of a statement in the English language, but it does not prove the existence of oddly colored bananas, the sentience of fruit, or anatomically freaky felines. The math in this book is much like the sentence above and would not be given any weight as "proof" to Anybody with a strong mathematical background.

I recommend to anybody following along with the math in this book to question the author's selection of numbers. Where did he get most of the numbers from that he uses in his proofs?

Where did he get the number 68,302 from to begin with, and why did he decide to divide it by 26 and 37? Further, why would he then subtract the result? Is it only for the purpose of arriving at another number that he was already looking for?

When the author "finds" a repeating number, what method does he use to select how much of it to pay attention to? Sometimes the author makes a division calculation and arrives with a number that has repeating .8888888 at the end. He then will go on to use just the 8, or 88, or 888 to manipulate other numbers - seemingly the choice of how many 8s he uses is just to arrive at a number that he wanted to arrive at beforehand.

Other times, the author ignores some digits in a repeating number, such as 68.370370370 - he will only use the 37, and ignore the 0. On other occasions, he will completely drop any digits in the decimal, and only keep the whole number. THIS IS NOT PROPER MATHEMATICS - The author seems to be deliberately choosing Arbitrary numbers *Just so that he will arrive at an answer He Has Already Decided That He Wants to Arrive At*.

The rest of the book is interesting and entertaining both. I have nothing to say of the author's other assumptions and proofs of his belief.

Please think of this book whatever you will, but do not let the mathematical "proofs" themselves convince you of any validity to the book's claims. They are Not.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Better Than Nighttime Tylenol, January 28, 2005
This review is from: The Orion Prophecy: Will the World Be Destroyed in 2012? (Paperback)
In The Orion Prophecy Patrick Geryl & Gino Ratinckx deal with Maya & Egyptian prophecy. Looking over of these reviews, some of these folks must not be well read. These authors have not made any claims that others have not from today's Hal Lindsey, Gordon Scallion, Art Bell, to yesterdays Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus, Mayans......

The point being if your new to the thought of massive earth changes this book is an OK place to start. However, if your familiar with that train of thought I would suggest skipping it because I really did fall a sleep several times reading it. I didn't even need any Nighttime Tylenol last night. So for that it gets three big yellow yawns (Stars) from me.

People love doomsday prophecies...the fact that some people actually take this seriously is a testament to that. What we have here are two pseudo-scientists believing in an incredible conclusion (The Earth will be ripped apart by geo-magnetic forces in 2012) and then basing all their "research" to support that conclusion. I've seen this countless times...each time is more entertaining than the last...."Scientists" using "mathmatical proof" to support a variety of doomsday predictions.

Whats wrong with this?

1.) Most discoveries and research successes in science are by accident...true research is not with a set conclusion. SETI researches did not intend to find microwave background radiation...but they did. Penicillin was discovered on accident. Pavlov's theory of conditioned response was on accident. On the other hand...these guys are already convinced the world will blow up in 2012...and base their research to prove it. Most true science is done in reverse...your research leads to your conclusion...not the other way around.

2.) The actual "research" in this book is laughable at best. Their are no controls on what numbers they use, where they get their formulas from, etc. I'm sure if I looked into it I could "Mathmatically prove" that I'm related to Jesus by using my height, my D.O.B., my Zodiac sign, and the distance between my elbow and wrist. All im saying is that people can manipulate numbers however they want to prove however they want.

3.) One of the cornerstones of the book is that when the stars (BTW Venus is not a star) are in a certain position....the sun's magnetic field will go bonkers, causing extreme geo-magnetic activities on the Earth...and that such an event has already occured about 11,000 years ago. Anyone who knows anything at all about physics knows that's illogical to the max....the only way celestial bodies have influence over each other is gravity...which is dependent on both size and distance. Venus has a minute, insubstantial effect on the sun's magnetic-gravitational field....it is simply too small compared to the sun to affect it. Stars outside of our solar system have even less effect...Gravity grows expotentially weaker the farther the two objects are from each other. Double the distance between two objects...and their gravitational attraction diminishes by a factor of 4...elementary stuff really...but its much simpler and too the point than these guys long winded formulas that really say nothing.

5.) If the world's magnetic field already went haywire 11,000 years ago, almost destroying everything...why is their no record of that in the fossil record?? Yes their are fossil records of mass extinctions...end of dinosaurs...etc...but 11,000 was not one of them.

6.) So the Mayans are descended from the Atlanteans...where is your proof for that??? And if these guys were so mathmatically advanced....you'd think they would have invented something to repel the European conquistadors....instead of using obsidian spears to counter their superior cannons.

7.) One of the cornerstones of moderm science is Okcam's Razor....which basically says that the simplest, most logical solution is overwhelmingly the correct answer in almost all situations. Okcam's Razor has held true even in the most advanced fields...cybernetics, nanotechnology, quantum mechanics (somewhat)...and Okcam's Razor would say that these guys overblown, directionless research has all been for naught.

When 2012 comes and goes....and nothing happens....these guys will have already worked out a new theory that will world ends in 2027 based on Nostradomus's predicitions coupled with pentameter of George Bush's speech.

4.0 out of 5 stars What is being human about, June 29, 2005
This review is from: The Orion Prophecy: Will the World Be Destroyed in 2012? (Paperback)
This is a book easy to dismiss because it is about a topic easily dismissable. Thousands of messengers have throughout the last 5000 thousand years predicted the end of the world. So far, none of them have been right. So why should Patrick G. be? Well, what if his findings are correct? Spend some time on that thought. What if the world will end on December 21. 2012? How will you spend the rest of today, the rest of the year, and the remaining 7 and a half years? I have found my answers, partly because of his book, partly because of many other books, people, thoughts and experiences. May you have a beautiful NOW - and 2013!

Aside from info in previous reviews this book had best explanations for why Orion is so important to seafaring Atlanteans (only constellation that can be seen from both N & S Hemispheres) and why the Great Pryramid was built (why precession so important in its measurements). Mayan Holy numbers given best explanation I have read. Definitely a must read for all. I believe the authors are correct and if you check the BIBLE CODE for year "2012" with smallest skip Matrix (of 6) you will see they speak the truth.

This Matrix found in Deuteronomy 28:35 to 28:38 when decoded reads the following: "Adamant about 2009-2010 and 2012-2013 extintion (of) all anthropoids (by) riots/insurrections (and the) sun, e.g., earthquakes, numbing seismic shakes, (and) ash bearing poisonous fumes."

This review is from: The Orion Prophecy: Will the World Be Destroyed in 2012? (Paperback)
This book is weak. Geryl's anectdotal presentation of the topic, endless hearsay quotes from other sources and lack of real evidence may do well over wheat beers at the veggie bar, but they leave the reader questioning "where's the beef?" Oh, that's right, Geryl is a starvation vegetarian. That is also one of his "laws" he wants to enact in the unlikely event that anyone survives his imaginative world ending. He's good with numbers too. Let's see, there are 264 pages in this book. If we divide 264 by the 12 zodiac signs, we get 22. I then subtract the extra 5 days of the ancient 365 day calendar from 22 and get 17. Hey - that's the retail price of this book $17. Look it's right here on the label. Amazing isn't it? Save your time and your money. Find another book on the 2012 Maya/Egyptian topic. There are plenty of good alternatives.

4.0 out of 5 stars I believe he is right!, July 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Orion Prophecy: Will the World Be Destroyed in 2012? (Paperback)
At the end of December 2012 the earth will be subjected to a super catastrophe, just as it did nearly 12,000 years ago, says researcher Patrick Geryl.
He teamed up with archeo-astronomer Gino Ratinckx to shed light on his study into ancient Egyptian artifacts - in particular the Zodiac in the Temple of Dendera, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and the Dresden Codex of the Maya. Geryl discovered that these artifacts all include precise mathematical and astronomical information about the cyclical nature of these "end time" events, including knowledge of sunspot megacycles and the precession of the zodiac constellations.
The imminent sign will be in the sky when Venus makes a retrograde planetary loop above the star system Orion; on which moment, according to the coded warnings, the sun will erupt with mega outbursts of magnetic activity, which will in turn cause the earth's magnetic field to reverse and the planet to spin in reverse and flip on its axis. The last time this happened was in 9792 BC, Geryl has deduced from the records. The resulting shift of the earth's crust, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and mega tidal waves will lay waste to the planet and most of its inhabitants. All electronic communication systems will become inoperable.
Geryl and Ratinckx are convinced that the Egyptians and the Maya had a common ancestor, the Atlanteans, who left behind additional coded information within a labyrinth in Egypt, and the authors believe they know its precise location. Geryl implores us to take this information seriously and prepare ourselves for how we might survive the cataclysm and warn future generations. As we watch our sun exhibiting strange activity, we would do well to ponder this earth-shattering prophecy.

By
G. Stray "Geoff Stray" (Glastonbury, Somerset, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Orion Prophecy: Will the World Be Destroyed in 2012? (Paperback)
Briefly, the authors claim that the Egyptian Book of the Dead contains information concerning a catastrophe that happened in 9792 BC, when the earth stopped its rotation and started to rotate in the opposite direction, causing the tidal wave that swamped Atlantis. The knowledge was carried to Egypt, where the Atlantean kings became the gods of Egyptian mythology. The knowledge of the catastrophe, and how to predict its future arrival, was encoded into the texts which were included in the collection known as "The Book of Coming Forth by Day" (the Book of the Dead), but it was primarily guarded for posterity in The Labyrinth, which was purpose-built by the Atlantean descendants as an astronomical observatory. The authors claim that the Labyrinth was not destroyed, as claimed by the Egyptologists, but lies buried at a location they discovered by laying a sky-map over a map of Egypt, (with Giza as the belt of Orion), and projecting the Hyades star-group (known as "the labyrinth") onto the ground.

They also discovered that there was a retrograde loop of Venus in the year 9792 BC, that matches another one in 2012, and after finding it, discovered that the phenomenon was encoded into the Book of the Dead, as an astronomical signal that the catastrophe is at hand...so the forthcoming loop signifies a coming Atlantis-like flood in 2012!

However, their claims don't hold up to investigation! When the constellation of Orion is overlaid on a map of the Giza pyramids, the Hyades are not even in the same direction as the pyramid at Hawara, where the authors say the Labyrinth building is located.

What is more, there are actually 12 retrograde loops of Venus over the Orion constellation, between 1924 and 2012, due to the fact that a loop happens in a different place around the horizon over a period of 8 years, forming a pentagram if the points are joined up...but the start-point of the pentagram moves by about 2.4 degrees each revolution. So, when the 12 loops are compared to the one in 9792 BC, it turns out that the most accurate repetition of the 9792 BC loop is the one that occurred in 1948...with no Atlantis cataclysm just after it!

These facts destroy the whole thesis of the book!
