4.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff, July 14, 2008
This review is from: Orion Starblast 6 Astro Telescope (Electronics)
To start, I have always been facinated with astronomy. I'm a semi-pro photographer of 10+ years so I know what makes good optics. However, I've never owned a telescope until now. I've gotten to use a few, but this scope went on sale for a price I couldn't refuse. Even though I was a bit dopey from a minor surgery, I was able to assemble and align this scope with no problem at all. By the same evening, I was looking at the rings of Saturn in my backyard. The image is clear and sharp. The base is nice and stable, the viewfinder is very easy to calibrate and use. I really have no complaints. Of course there are better scopes out there but they're also much more expensive. I'd recommend this to anybody wanting to get a start in amateur astronomy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Portable Telescope, April 26, 2009

This telescope was all that I had hoped it would be. I'm a retired person and needed something lighter and more mobile than my current telescope. I can set the scope on my deck, on the ground or on a table and it performs great. The optics are great also and the telescope came fully collimated (which is always a worry when buying reflectors).
A great buy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome telescope!, June 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Orion Starblast 6 Astro Telescope (Electronics)
This is my first telescope, and first time using one. I bought a 3x barlow and moon filter alone with it, and everything out the door was around $350. This is a great telescope, and decent build quality considering the price. It was very well packaged for shipping. Setup was pretty easy and I only had to glance at the instructions a couple times.

I took it out in the early evening (before the sun went down) to look at the moon. The ez-finder was out of adjustment, but once I found the moon in the telescope, I adjusted the ez-finder accordingly. Other than that I didn't have to touch the scope.

My first look at the moon that close (I used the barlow) was freaking amazing. You can see craters, mountain ranges, and lines clear as day. The scope isn't too heavy either, so you can easily transport it. The 3X barlow makes it so you can see the whole moon.

If it weren't for the Minnesota state bird (mosquitos) eating me alive, and the fact I had to work the next day, I would have sat out there all night. I also had a hard time getting a chance to use it because of my seven year old daughter, who thought is was the coolest thing ever.

For any newby like myself looking to get a telescope, this is a great way to start. When you decide to get into it deeper by purchasing an 8" or 10", you can keep this one for a portable.
