4.0 out of 5 stars Oritron: Kick-Butt Price, Kick-Butt Performance!
The Oritron is an unbeatable value! It does, and has, just about all the options some other supposedly ''high-end'' players have and still manages to do it all very cheaply. I was very impressed with the build of the unit itself and the packaging it came in, which, subconsciously at least, all add to a product's reputation. Unlike what some have said, this player indeed...

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Poor Quality
You get what you pay for. This unit's remote is very fragile. Keys constantly stick. The unit has trouble reading just about any disc and is very tempermental. Very cheap feel to the controls. Save your money./

The Oritron is an unbeatable value! It does, and has, just about all the options some other supposedly ''high-end'' players have and still manages to do it all very cheaply. I was very impressed with the build of the unit itself and the packaging it came in, which, subconsciously at least, all add to a product's reputation. Unlike what some have said, this player indeed does have Dolby 5.1 built-in and DTS pass-through. You use the digital coaxial output line to hook this baby up to your home reciever or shelf system and you're ready for some surround sound fun. The quality of a DVD picture is going to be just beautiful; there isn't going to be a difference in the picture this player outputs from an expensive Panasonic deal, I assure you. I have no doubts about that. It has parental lock-out, which is a good feature that some more expensive don't have, it has a zoom function (not that many people use that), and it even has S-Video capability. I wholeheartedly recommend you pick this player up. Skip all those other overpriced models with essential the same features; it'd be stupid to do otherwise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product for the Price, until..., March 27, 2000
This review is from: Oritron DVD 200 DVD Player (Electronics)
Excellent product for the price. However, if you plan to play DTS music CD's, this machine will not let you do it (refer to the editorial reviews). I bought a dts music cd and have wondered for a long time why I cound't play it on this Oritron dvd player... However, consider dts cd music cd's are rare and rather expensive, you may save yourself a bundle buying this machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oritron DVD 100, March 9, 2000

I bought the Oritron DVD 100. The quality of the picture is very good. This unit is good enough to enter the world of DVD UNTIL the DVD recordable players enter the market. This is the main reason why I did not buy a high end DVD player.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective !, June 1, 2000

I purchased the "Oritron DVD 200 DVD-Video Player" as a second player, and it could only play a few of my DVDs. It suffered from severe skipping as well as audible pops and clicks. Overall, it was a total lemon !

2.0 out of 5 stars I wish I had gone with a different DVD Player, June 1, 2000

I agree with the gentleman who said this player sticks a lot. I have had nothing but problems trying to get different DVD's to work in this piece of work. I would never purchase another Oritron product. The only thing I liked about this player was the price but I will probably go out and purchase a different player as soon as I can afford it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ghettotron, June 4, 2000
This review is from: Oritron DVD 200 DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this thing and we've nicknamed it the Ghettotron. It gets the job done, and if you don't have a high end home theatre system it's a good, cheap way to go (I bought it for my fraternity house). Haven't had much trouble playing discs, other than the cursor disappearing occasionally, this is a good player for those within a budget and the patience to deal with the occasional technical issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BEST DVD PLAYER I HAVE FOUND! (RARE, TOO), March 19, 2002

..DVD players I own, and I have 3 (Sony & Pioneer are my others) and the ORITRON is the best! so it doesn't have a big name behind it, so what! it saves you MONEY! you aren't paying for the NAME! This awesome player will play any NTSC DVD plus also plays those VCD's (Video CD) that usually only computers could play! The remote is great and allows you to play all the individual chapters/pages on a DVD instead of going through the DVD menu... which is handy in finding all those hidden easter eggs! I use the S-VHS connection for the best picture, and the coaxial port for DTS and it is great! Snag one if you can find it!...

2.0 out of 5 stars Consider the Toshiba instead, June 1, 2000

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Oritron DVD 200 DVD Player (Electronics)
About 6 mos ago I was in market for a DVD player and wanted to pay a little as possible for a completely satifcatory machine. Lots of research, reading of reviews and finally settled on a Toshiba SD1200. 6 mos later I can only say great things about the quality of the viewing and machine. I stumbled across the negative reivews on this player and wanted to provide cheapskates like myself an alternative player that was hassle free. When I was purchasing their were many issues with the low-end Sony (reportedly since corrected) but I took the leap to Toshiba and would recommend it to others. Pay the extra bucks and relieve yourself of 2 hours on the phone with customer service.
