Customer Reviews

There was not, so I filled it up and tried to spark it.

So, if you're trying to use it with one hand, it's almost impossible to pull the small safety knob down, and then pull the trigger back.

I give it to my wife and her comments about it was the best!

The Orka Kitchen Torch is a very basic crème brulee torch that works just fine for casual use. We have several different models of crème brulee torches that we use for cooking at home and in our small business for use in teaching crafting. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Easy to use
+ Comfortable grip

Cons:
- Not able to lock it on for hands free use
- No fuel gauge\window so it is impossible to tell when it is going to run dry

We will use this torch as a backup or last choice in our shop. For those needing a very good crème brulee torch, I recommend BonJour Chef's Torch with Fuel Gauge, Brushed Aluminum.

Bought this for my very occasional creme brulees. I'm not a pro like the other reviewer so this is the only kitchen torch I have ever owned. But it lights first try every time, has an easy flame adjustment and did a fine job for me. I don't care that it has no fuel gage. The butane sits in the same cabinet and takes only seconds to add when the torch runs empty. Hands free operation also doesn't matter to me. You can get these features but not worth the $ for the occasional user.

Purchased this item to make lemon meringue cupcakes to add a toasted look to the frosting. Good to know: it doesn't come with any fuel, however, you can get fuel at any major hardware store. It's relatively simple to use, although it took a few attempts to get a flame. The flame is very fine at the tip which is great for control. Also is very quick and can brown a cupcake in about 3 seconds. Doesn't seem like a "gas guzzler" either-- barely put a dent in the fuel after toasting 24 cupcakes.

Just what I needed, perfect and a lot easier to use than my husband's blow torch (maybe a tad bit safer too)

This torch works as advertised. We bought it specifically for making creme brulee, but I imagine it would work well for other food dishes. It even came in handy for defrosting some frozen pipes outside! Great little torch.

This is a super safe kitchen torch in that the safety mechanism makes sure that you don't accidentally turn it on without meaning to. It is definitely better suited for the occasional user though, as it does not allow you to keep it on like the blowtorches in commercial kitchens. Also, it was slightly difficult to refuel as the butane leaked a bit to the side while refilling it. Not sure if it lies with the fuel or the blow torch.

I wanted to cook my first creme brulee and could have bought an expensive torch with more functions, but I rather spend less for a beginners one. This Torch is just ok, it gets the deal done. I don't know if its me or what it is, but I did make a mess trying to fill it with butane gas... Then I couldn't get it started, it was because I dind't press hard enough the red trigger, you have to do it real hard in order to get a flame and can't bend it down to much since the flame will desapere, the flame has to be almost at the same level of the food.

i fill it up with Zippo Butane and it takes multiple pulls of the trigger(10-15 times) to get this thing to light sometimes! and they child safety is very cumbersome
