Forget the expanding steel insert over water. This tight fitting lid and bowl combo allows for perfect steaming of large portions of vegetables or a complete casserole. Needs very little extra water added and less time in microwave then plastic containers with covers or wax paper. Collapsable silicon saves space in storage.

I use this steamer almost daily to steam frozen and/or fresh veggies. I don't add any water (or very little sometimes) to frozen veggies, and it cooks in less time than the package says (about half the time). Cleanup is easy, mostly just rinsing and wiping out. I also have the personal steamer size for smaller portions. Because it's silicone, you can take it out of the microwave with your bare hands. I love it.

I was skeptical when I first ordered this - you always hear about "magic" kitchen gadgets and how they are easy and the results are great, etc. Well, I was blown away when I tried this! The first thing I made was chicken and green beans. I even used a frozen chicken breast. I just drizzled some Italian dressing over everything, popped it in the microwave for less than 10 minutes and BAM! Out pops dinner, perfectly cooked, tasting like it had marinated all day and also healthy! This is really only enough for a single meal (or maybe two chicken breasts or a side of vegetables). I have already purchased a bigger size!

Loved the convenience of this steamer. However, after the first run through the dishwasher...we noticed that our veggies started having a soapy aftertaste. We tossed several servings, thinking it was the bulk broc. that we had purchased. After trying other veggies...it became clear that the steamer was picking up odors from the diswasher and passing them off in the steamed veggies. It's tough enough to get our child to eat veggies...much less with them having a soapy taste.

I purchased this steamer after also purchasing two Orka tagines. This steamer has the same bottom as the tagine, just a different top (and the tagine seems a bit stiffer). We have had great success steaming fish and vegetables with this steamer. A fast, easy way to make moist, delicious food. Works much better than grilling/baking with aluminum foil. Easy clean up--the steamer bottom (which we coat with cooking spray) goes right into the dishwasher.

Highly recommended!

I bought this on a whim and I wasn't quite sure how often I would use it. Turns out it has become a staple in my kitchen! I use it at least 4 times a week to steam veggies or fish. It's quick, there's little to no clean up, and it works incredibly well! I've used microwave steamers in the past to poor results. This steamer really holds in flavors and doesn't let food get mushy. Wonderful, Wonderful!

I use the Orka Steamer literaly EVERY day! I liked it so much, that I purchased one for my mother and one for my daughter as well. It is so easy to clean and store and unlike glass it's lightweight with NO breakage problem! I use the lid to cover all my other microwaveable dishes! I have one in Raspberry and one in Blue! I am 100% pleased with this product.

I found one of these while out shopping in a smaller size and used it so often I bought a second one. This is a gadget that revolutionizes cooking.

You can cook 4 cups of broccoli filets in three minutes and then just throw this in the dishwasher! And with steaming all the nutrients stay IN rather than being boiled away! Better yet, you can put great seasonings in or a glaze or infused oils or even just olive oil or olive oil and dijon.

This one actually came with a far better cookbook than the first one I bought because there is a long list about how to cook loads of things you might steam...like corn on the cob, you can put 2 cobs in and they are done in 6 minutes, perfectly steamed. I like to put margarine and spices on them
or chili oil

It is fantastic for potatoes...they always take so long any other way but you can slice up some potatoes and top with sauces, a garlic spread, etc...2 large russet potatoes done in 9 minutes.

The cookbook actually tells you ideas of how to season each thing you want to cook as well.

This is especially handy for those without a double oven...now you can actually do some side dishes or elements of main dishes in the microwave and your oven and stove top are free.

BUT even though I use it often in the microwave, silicone works great in the oven too, all the way up to 450 so you can actually do a full meal with protein and veg steamed all together. I did a full potato casserole with Daiya cheese, some garlic, sometimes margarine but usually olive oil, salt and pepper....yeah baby! And no clean up...unlike any other oven pan, you need no fat or oil to cook if you don't want to use it...everything pops right out perfectly no matter what you cook in it!
