I bought two of these tagines--total impulse buy, as we were looking for ways to steam food. They have been an integral part of my kitchen ever since. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great steamer!, March 28, 2008

I bought two of these tagines--total impulse buy, as we were looking for ways to steam food. They have been an integral part of my kitchen ever since. Spray them with cooking spray, add some fish cut into chunks(we have tried tilapia and salmon thus far), thinly sliced vegetables and spices (I have been experimenting with making my own ras el hanout), put it in the oven at 360, and in 20-25 minutes, dinner is ready!

Comes with a small recipe book that suggests microwave use, but we would rather use the oven. Overall, the tagine makes moist, flavorful low-fat, low calorie meals that don't taste low-fat, low calorie!

Definitely one of my better impulse buys!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tagine Review, March 26, 2009
This review is from: Orka Silicone Tagine, Black (Kitchen)
I use my tagine several times per week. It is a great product for easy to prepare meals. I just put some chicken with fruits, veges, and spices in the tagine and cook for an hour. Then I add couscous to the drippings and have a satisfying meal. The only drawback is the lid doesn't seal with the bottom portion, so the juices often overflow in the oven.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job right, July 29, 2008

Even though it is not the authentic Moroccan clay Tagine pot it does the job right and makes the right tasting Tagine without a problem... even in our toaster oven. The device may not be useful for the purpose of a show off nor as a conversation piece but it cooks right (if you know how to cook Tagine... or can follow the instructions). This one is small, will hold/cook an American size meal for a couple. If you intend to feed more at the same time, buy a larger size!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for 2-3 people, January 25, 2009
This review is from: Orka Silicone Tagine, Black (Kitchen)
This is my second tajine (yes, I am the crown prince of Tajinistan) and I was at first worried about its small size and it being of silicon. I now love both features. It is perfect for filling full of whatever is leftover (noodles are a favorite), mixing with some eggs and cheese and making a breakfast for two.

If you limit tajines to Moroccan-style cooking you're missing how versatile this tool is. Use it anytime you might use a casserole dish, and it'll do better. And it looks cool (the royal palace is modeled after one).

4.0 out of 5 stars Chic, effective, and very small, November 9, 2009

This review is from: Orka Silicone Tagine, Black (Kitchen)
I love this tagine. Granted, it is the first tagine I have ever owned, but all things considered, I find it a great start. Speaking well of it's size, it fits perfectly atop my toaster oven when not in use, and I find it a wonderful way to make a lovely Moroccan inspired dish in under 10 minutes - really, there was one time I spent a tad longer chopping and dicing than it actually ended up taking to microwave the meal. It does work in the oven, but for where I am in life (a single, working bachelor) it works best in the microwave. Clean up is a breeze, and use is easy to pick up on.

Negatives? Size; do not plan on making a meal for more than two people in this one... especially if you use cuts of meat or fish (I myself am a vegetarian, so it really is not too big a deal to me, but I could see where that would produce a problem for someone wanting lamb shanks for four...). Also, the lid; it merely sits on top of the dish... no lip in which to sit or any sort of holding mechanism... merely sits on top... leaving great potential for gaps in the connection between lid and dish. BUT, if you set the dish in the microwave and then place the lid, it's an easily avoidable quandary.

Overall? Good purchase; I recommend it for the casual culinary world-traveller.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will not believe this thing...., September 1, 2010
This review is from: Orka Silicone Tagine, Black (Kitchen)
I received this as a gift, I had never seen one before. The pamphlet it came with talked about cooking chicken and lamb and such in the microwave. Sounds like a bad idea unless you like eating warm rubber.

I am a picky cook, I have my ways of doing things. I like easy and fast, but never if it sacrifices flavor or presentation. This silicone tagine thingy opened my f-ing mind when it comes to putting things in the microwave. It is some kind of futuristic dutch oven. I routinely defrost and cook chicken in this little thing-and it comes out awesome. I never thought I would ever cook chicken (or any other meat for that matter) in the microwave. Now I do it all the time. I have amazed my friends by making dinner with five minutes prep time and gourmet results. I am not one to talk up things, but these things are awesome. Try it.

Notes: Goes right in the dishwasher, or oh so easy hand wash.
You can makes cakes in the damn thing. (in the oven, haven't tried that in the microwave yet, sounds like a bad idea, but who knows?)
Good for one person portion wise. I find i can make a whole meal in it for myself. If cooking for more than one it is too small unless you make side dishes to go along with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for One, April 19, 2011

This tagine is very versatile, being able to use in the oven or microwave. I actually enjoy using this in the microwave because I can have a fully cooked meal in under 9 minutes. The material of the product makes it very easy to clean. This tagine is very small for two people, unless you overload it, but it's perfect for one. And unlike regular clay tagines, you don't need to season it. Others complained about the top not connecting to the bottom very tightly, but the top just "sits" over the bottom on a little lip. It actually shouldn't be a tight fit as you do need some steam to escape. I just place the bottom in the microwave or oven, and then gently sit the top in place. Works every time. Would definitely recommend this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice addition to the kitchen, November 9, 2009

I had long been looking at tagines but had not wanted to spend so many $ on something I wasn't sure I would use. This silicone tagine was a great choice. Although you cannot brown food in it, it can be put in the microwave as well as the oven. Food made from included recipes are tasty. There are two negatives: be aware it is quite small though adequate when cooking for 2, and it gets rather floppy with food in it. The latter is solved by quickly sliding a plate under.

The orka tagine is a very useful gadget. The high lid makes reheating food (like chicken or biscuits) easy. It's true, the lid loosely sits atop the base. It was not a problem. I have used the tagine in the microwave many times with good results using half the usual cooking time.
