Book Description

May 5, 2009
San Francisco-based Orlando Diaz-Azcuy’s mastery of the home interior has made him one of America’s most renowned designers. One of the West Coast’s most well-respected and prolific designers, his elegantly composed rooms speak volumes for his spare, intelligent, and disciplined touch. His interiors—located in Miami and New York as well as San Francisco—combine a modernist approach of architecturally clean lines and urbane sensibility with smart flashes of bold color or a pedigreed period statement piece to balance a curated look. Regarded by professionals as a "dean of interior design" and a pioneer of minimalist design since the early 1980s, Diaz-Azcuy has been an epic if under-recognized influence to all those interested in interior architecture and design. With insightful texts on his design methodologies and sensibility, Orlando Diaz-Azcuy stands to be one of the most important interior design monographs of the season.

“Interior architect, decorator, furniture and textile designer extraordinaire, the well-traveled Diaz-Azcuy incorporates his passion into the kind of achingly beautiful rooms that fill this book.” ~Veranda

5.0 out of 5 stars A master of the art of subtle luxury May 20, 2009
Format:Hardcover
ORLANDO DIAZ-AZCUY, the latest in a very long line of excellent books written by Diane Dorrans Saeks, takes you into the world of this brilliant San Francisco-based designer. Having quite a collection of design books, from the moment I opened this title I noted how this one stands out as truly having a strong and clear point of view. You could not mistake these rich and lush interiors for anything other than the work of Orlando Diaz-Azcuy. Seamlessly mixing (and carefully editing) 'high' and 'low' items within one space; bathing rooms with soft, warm light; magically infusing subtle colors and textures -- all hightlights of the work found on these pages. Combine the numerous images of these inspired rooms with the carefully worded and insightful text and you have this new 'must-have' for any design enthusiast!

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful guide to design and lifestyle October 9, 2009
By LR Mom
Format:Hardcover
Orlando Diaz's breadth of style and creativity really shines through in this beautiful book. As a coffee table book it's beautiful to look at, but it's a wonderful resource for design inspiration and ideas of how to have a beautiful home that you can LIVE in. So many masters of interior designs have books that look beautiful but aren't truly livable spaces. This book shows that across a range of client's individual styles and tastes, Diaz is a master of mixing old and new, color and neutrality, varieties of textures it all comes together to create unique rooms and homes. While the text is often a bit off putting and pretentious, what comes through is the brilliance of Diaz's designs. Each home reflects Diaz' surprises and quirks that make it clear that he doesn't "do" just one look. The book is fabulous resource and a terrific gift for anyone who enjoys design and wants to learn about Diaz's vision.
