This is a compilation consisting of tracks from 3 CDs that Earl King made for the Black Top label at the very end of his career. The opening 2 tracks are from the 1988 release "Glazed", with Earl backed by Roomful of Blues. Frankly, the matchup was only moderately successful, and these are 2 of the weaker tracks on the collection. The rest is split between material from the 1990 release "Sexual Telepathy" (5 tracks) and the 1992 release "Hard River To Cross" (4 tracks). The 1990 material is uniformly excellent, and the 1992 stuff is almost as good. Like many old time bluesmen, Earl King recorded some of the best music of his career at the end of his career. He passed away in 2003 at the age of 69. If you wanted to have just one CD by Earl King, I don't think you could do much better than this. My only quibble is the skimpy liner notes - it would be nice to get a little info about who the supporting musicians are, but this budget-line collection does not provide that.

Earl King's music is an absolute treasure. If he were a product of any other nation on Earth, he would receive grants, fellowships, endowments and visits from substantial dignitaries. His name would be on the tongue of every school child and he would be showered with riches by an adoring populace. There never has been nor will there ever be anyone else who can sing and play like the New Orleans master, Earl King.
