5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
Ornamental Plants and Flowers of Tropical Mexico is a fine book, well written, interesting, and the many color photos are excellent.
I've been down into Mexico many times and always wished I had a decent book with me to identify the amazing flowers, vines and trees I was seeing. I am a horticulturist and a garden writer myself (author of Allergy Free Gardening,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Picture Book - Little Substance
The book has some nice photographs of plants being grown in the area. Pretty much what you would expect to see in local gardens, or a plant nursery.

It has virtually no usable information on gardening or growng anything, - a few mis-identified plants as well (in my edition at least).

For me the book serves no purpose whatsoever, except i bought...

Ornamental Plants and Flowers of Tropical Mexico is a fine book, well written, interesting, and the many color photos are excellent.
I've been down into Mexico many times and always wished I had a decent book with me to identify the amazing flowers, vines and trees I was seeing. I am a horticulturist and a garden writer myself (author of Allergy Free Gardening, etc.) and of course I know many of the Mexican plants, but too many I don't.
Next trip I take into Mexico, I'll be bringing this book along with me, for sure. I expect it might be quite handy in almost any tropical setting, southern Florida, Central America, much of South America. For those who actually live in those green tropics, there are also good notes on how to propagate these glorious plants. It's a very decent book and if you're a plant lover like I am, I think it would be a darn good one to take along on your next trip south of ther border.

This book was great! The book helped identify plants that you see in the tropics, especially Mexico. It was a great resource. It was used to create our garden north of Vallarta. I am also using it to add a tropical touch to our California garden.

It has virtually no usable information on gardening or growng anything, - a few mis-identified plants as well (in my edition at least).

For me the book serves no purpose whatsoever, except i bought it locally (Vallarta) and part of the proceeds went to charity. Even so, had I seen the book prior to purchasing it I would not have purchased it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ornamental Plants & Flowers of Tropical Mexico (Paperback)
Gardening books on growing plants on the west coast of Mexico seem to be few and far between. Whilst this isn't a "how to" book it does picture, describe and give the horticultural and common names of plants seen in the Puerto Vallarta area and also gives cultivation tips. It will be a great help in purchasing plants and planning my new garden there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Of Little Use, April 21, 2009
This review is from: Ornamental Plants & Flowers of Tropical Mexico (Paperback)
I found this book to contain many errors especially with the scientific names. The photographs were poor and often blurry. The plants themselves were so common and overused in landscaping that yet another book about them seems worthless.
