Product Description

Fresh off a Latin GRAMMY nomination for "Best New Artist," ChocQuibTown presents their U.S. debut album, 'Oro.' The group is an Afro-Colombian hip-hop act who formed in the Chocó region on Colombia's Pacific coast. They fuse hip hop, electronica and funk with traditional Afro-Colombian rhythms. ChocQuibTown is comprised of three MCs - Tostao, Goyo, and Slow. 2009 was a banner year for ChocQuibTown, beginning with the group's U.S. debut concert at SXSW. In addition to the Latin GRAMMY nomination, they showcased at WOMEX and toured from London to Paris and India to Las Vegas.

Review

The biggest thrills at SXSW came from an emerging Colombian trio who can sing, rap and trigger dance floor delirium like the Fugees reincarnate. They're called Choc Quib Town and their new album is a gritty-gorgeous tropical swirl of Latin hip-hop. --The Washington Post

As Colombian hip-hop gods Choc Quib Town blew down the stage at Momo's.... it was one of the best hours of live music that I've ever experienced. --Boston Phoenix

It has great moments, with the opener and a few other songs, but going through all 16 songs is quite a task, especially since it loses its punch after a while and it becomes more of the same. If they had done a 10 song LP, it would be a classic. At 16, it's way too long to enjoy in one sitting. Still, kudos to them, they achieved something for them and their people. We'll just have to wait till their next effort comes around.

Came across this group when scouring Amazon's international music selection. Glad I found them, beats are great and I'm sure the messages in their lyrics are stellar (I need to get a translator, haha). well worth at least listening to them before you take the plunge and purchase.

Listening to these Colombians make you jump into the floor and dance. It's not reggaeton at all. It is a perfect combination between rhythms from the African traditions present in the nowadays pacific territories in Colombia.

I highly recommend this album! Great rhythm and I know I will be listening to it for a long time. I have just gotten the album, but have been listening to it non-stop.
