4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the 8 bucks!
This CD has been heralded as a CD for the new millenium. It's hard not to classify these guys as nu-metal, but with any type of music, if its done right then it sounds good.

DWR utilizes a double dragon dual mc attack much like linkin park and smacks much of rap influence, which seems to be a strong trend nowadays. However, much like their miami florida bretheren,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent...
The album is not really all that I hoped it would be. I heard so many great things about this album, but was some-what disapointed with this pure nu-metal album. I am not a real big fan of nu-metal, so my review might be misleading. The songs themselfs are all really the same, and the music has it's hard points, but what I was surprised at is the choruses. I mean, almost...

However, much like their miami florida bretheren, nonpoint, they have a strong talent for making great songs that grow on you. They often have the low gutteral guitar that korn perfected but tend to use it to produce comaprably more up-beat rythems.

I will admit at first listen I wasn't highly impressed with the work. However after listening to it on a couple long drives it is now part of my regular rotation. I'd reccomend this to anyone who likes nonpoint, linkin park, korn, adema etc. Tracks of note are : Feel So Stupid (1), Track 5 and Realize (8).

The only negative about this album I feel is the track where they have shaggy as a guest performer. While it sounds alot better than expected, it seems to be a cry for the band to get noticed--it's not like Shaggy posesses any extrordonary talent other than voice and name recognition. Essentilly, having shaggy seemed to be for namesake and soundsake, nto for art sake. They should have had maynard from tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow, totally awesome, super original, May 18, 2006
This review is from: Orphan (Audio CD)
ok, so i got this cd years ago when it came out, and i loved it as soon as i listened to it! lyrically they are fantastic, and the guitars/drums/bass, all of it is wonderful. They do their own thing (which was a BEFORE linkin park thing) of having a singer and a raspy sounding rapper/screamer... their style is their own, and it all comes together quite nicely. I know that its hard to find a cd that i can listen to over and over, and out of about 1,500 CDs that i have, there are only about 20 of those... and this is one of them! I cant really explain them, but they are a magnificent band, and i wish they were still around...

FAVORITE SONGS:

Into the Dark - lyrics are great, the bass is freakishly cool sounding, the mixing of the rapguy and the singer is awesome... the breakdown w/ screaming for the chorus is cool.

Sometimes it Happens like this - DEFINETLY my FAVORITE SONG OFF OF THIS CD!!! just a mellow beat with soft echoing guitars in the background and the rapper guy is going at it! then the guitars cut in harder, slowly... and the singer chimes in then it just hits hard and rocks with screaming and total bada$$ness!

Live for the Moment - Another great song... really "Rage against the machine" guitars! raspy rapping, good rage guitars, awesome song all around.

5.0 out of 5 stars New sound and GREAT talent, November 29, 2005
This review is from: Orphan (Audio CD)
I saw these guy's on Ozzfest a few years back and was mezmorized by their show and the sound of the songs. Their show was so full of energy that people started leaving the main stage area to go to the side stage to watch them. The best songs are #1, #3, #5 (rediculously good) #6 & #11.

With the bland, stagnant sound coming from most radio rock, these guys are excellent.

I caught these fellas in Lawrence quite sometime ago, and bought their CD with saliva running down my chin. I'd call this cd a wet dream come true. Not many bands can put the energy into an album that they put into shows, but DWR did just that. All the tracks are varied and draw you in from the start. Just look at the varity between tracks like Sometimes It Happens Like This and Innosense. Two completly different flavors, spaced out through the album perfectly. Talent wise these fellas are no slouches. The guitar riffs are awesome, the lyrics are great, and structured well. And the two singers mix up the singing/rapping perfectly. The rythm section are awesome. Double bass is used appropriatly as well as Bass slapping. I heartly reccomend this album to anybody into rapcore, metal, or just looking for a different sound.

I'm more of a punk fan overall but I got an ear for some other styles of music. I first heard these guys on some TV channel a while back, by chance saw their CD at the store, had some money in hand, and picked it up to hear some more of them. The music can be a little strange when the vocals are soothing and calm then suddently are screaming at you. (screaming in a good metal type way) So I am recommending this to you and my personal favorite songs are:

Feel So Stupid (Table 9)
Live For The Moment
D.I.Y.M
All I've Got Is Me

But all the songs are good so this album is totaly worth checking out. Oh and don't get the edited version, cause that would really screw up the song Live For The Moment

2.0 out of 5 stars Massive amount of potential, but..., January 1, 2003

Every once in awhile, you hear a band that has an unreal amount of talent, but just does not seem to know what to do with it. Darwin's Waiting Room is, in my opinion, at the top of this heap, and is set to explode, but consider the timer still ticking after this record. A few times over the coarse of "Orphan", you can hear what this band could really do. One thing they really need to do is learn how to utilize the two singers (one rapper, one singer) that they have. The singer is way to often just mindlessly holding notes in the back round. Other than that, they are good... but having problems with your singers drags you down quite a bit. The writing is sensational, and the record is worth buying just for "All I Have Is Me". All and all, this record is a good icebreaker, but do yourself a favor and wait a few months for Darwin's forth coming effort. (If I could, I'd rate "Orphan 2 1/2 stars).

I bought this album almost a year ago when I bought Adema. both were under 10 bucks so I figured what the hell. Now, both are in my favorites collection. The double team of vocals makes for a really good listen. I think the stand out tracks on this one are Another Way, Sometimes it happens like this, Innosense, and by far the best track on here "All I have is Me" which when I first heard it didn't like the intro, but when you hear the chorus, its hard not to like this song. True, Shaggy is severely unneeded. They shouldn't need any guest vocals to make the album good. But every little bit helps. I hope their second album is just as good.

highly recommended for those that like the singing and the screaming aspect of music.

somewhat similar to Limp Bizkit, but much better.

I mean, almost every single chorus on the album is memorable and catchy, especially on "Feel So Stupid" (Table 9)and "Live for the Moment" (now there's a shout along chorus, "F*ck that, fight back, live for the moment, it's now or never so let's stand together..." genius). But other thatn the catchy choruses and some decent riffs, the album is just another nu-metal casualty...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Orphan" will be a breakout CD for DWR, July 27, 2001
This review is from: Orphan (Audio CD)
South Florida is quickly becoming the hotbed of upcoming rock bands. Darwin's Waiting Room adds to that with a solid debut. The first single, "Feel So Stupid (Table 9)" starts off the CD with a passion not heard in awhile. "Live for the Moment" continues the momentum, telling it's listeners to live for today. The first six songs are amazing, combining Grimm's strong MCing with Jabe's melodic interludes. This is a CD that will get some notice. Be one of the first to get this disc. This is an enhanced CD, with 2 videos filmed live in Florida. Because of that, it's worth buying instead of getting MP3s. Pick this CD up...you won't be let down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just another metal meets rap band, July 25, 2001

This review is from: Orphan (Audio CD)
With a band name like Darwins Waiting Room, I couldn't resist. Knowing nothing about the band, I brought this home with minimal expectations. I kept my fingers crossed that it would at least be listenable and was pleasantly surprised. As a whole it is a very catchy album that brings to mind a hybrid between Linkin Park and Disturbed. Yet the group have their own sound. More harsh than Linkin Park, but if you like that sound you should enjoy this CD. The lyrics are not as clean as Linkin Park, but how many hard rock bands are. Not every song relies on the rap influence and some are more subtle. There is even a track featuring Shaggy. This band has the potential to take off so you may want to pick up the CD before your friends discover it first. At the moment it is well priced, but is likely to go up if the band does hit it big. It's definitely worth a listen.
