An impressive debut,

This absorbing addition to the Fantasy Adventure genre is all the more compelling in light of the author's history. That young Erik Jensen determined to use his incarceration to "make a difference" (founding, with his parents, the Next Day Foundation for troubled teens) attests to the intellect, talent, and seriousness of purpose so evident in his writing. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

This review is from: Orphan Mage (The Fifth Trilogy) (Paperback)
The characters and worldbuilding in this story make for a fun read. The first time I picked up this book I put it down after one page. Something about the prose seemed ponderous. But that must have just been my mood, because when I picked it up again I got into it quickly. The general plotline is a familiar one, but the writing makes us care about the characters and marvel at their adventures.
