Idyllic novel,
By Cecily Partridge "The Library Lady" (Western Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Orphan Lamb (Paperback)
Having read Pastures New and finding it a bit boring, I was a little hesitant to try Orphan Lamb. I am so glad that I gave Ann Pursers Round Ringford series another chance. Where I found Pastures New slow, Orphan Lamb was a quick read. I could not put it down! I couldn't wait to find out what happend to Mandy and Robert and Joe, and I loved the fact that Ivy actually seemed to have a heart! I loved following the seasons of a farming village in England, and Purser describes it as everything I imagine that kind of life to be.
I guess I have read them out of order, but look forward to reading Spinster of the Parish next. If you love Miss Read and her two series of books, you will certainly enjoy Ann Pursers.

Something about this book is very haunting. It is just daily life in a small British village about several families, but after reading it, you feel like you want to find out what they are all doing today. It is easy to become involved in their lives and to be concerned about them. The people are so easy to visualize, but I kept thinking of them as people I have seen in the series, 'Last of the Summer Wine'. I am sure someone had to look like Nora Batty.

Round Ringford: A Cosy English Village,

"Orphan Lamb" is another quietly delightful read in this series by Ann Purser! As you read these stories you get to know all the characters as if they are your friends. In this story you learn about Robert Bates and his wife Mandy and an addition to his family little "Joey". What will happen to the loving relationship between Bill Turner and Peggy Palmer?! If you haven't read this series before I recommend it highly and if you have Welcome Back!
