Editorial Reviews

2007 release, the third album by the singer/songwritter from St Louis now based in New York. Kristeen Young is currently supporting Morrissey on his world tour. The album, produced by studio legend Tony Visconti, is a live, raw recording of Kristeen's affected, overdriven piano (that really wants to be a guitar), her distinctive, highly individual, attention-grabbing vocals, and Baby Jeff White's bombastic, OTT drum stylings. The album's title and interwoven themes refer to Kristeen's experiences in this world as an "adopted", bi-racial infant/child and then, as a struggling "DIY Rock artist" adult. Test Tube Baby. 2007

5.0 out of 5 stars Meet Miss Young...again, with a vengeance, October 13, 2007

Some years ago I heard some stuff from Meet Miss Young and Her All Boy Band on KDHX in St. Louis. I ran out and got a copy and played it till I scared my neighbors. This was highly original music beautifully done and was a treat from start to finish. A shame that it is now among the "currently unavailable". For years I waited and searched for her next effort but it never appeared...until recently. I LOVE THIS STUFF !!!
The Orphans is every bit as compelling and sonically interesting as her first album and then some. I love her piano style, like Shostakovich meets Jerry Lee Lewis. Kristeen truly needs to be heard more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring as a Frying Pan to the Face, December 7, 2007

First off, this is more of an artist review than an album review. I haven't heard all the songs on this album but I did just see Kristeen Young live (opened for Ted Leo). She was incredible. I haven't seen energy and passion like that on-stage for a very long time. Baby Jeff pounds on the drums like they owe him money and she puts her all into every song as if it would be her last. Without a doubt she gives the listener the impression that she is very close to that edge (and supports that with song titles like "The Depression Contest") but that's what is so inspiring about Young. Unlike bands today that target a niche market to squeeze out a few bucks Young could win over anyone that appreciates art and passion. Do yourself and see her live.

Young- "My producer tells me I need to show more vulnerability on stage, but this isn't an AA meeting..."
