4.0 out of 5 stars Can it get worse?
Can it get worse than being an orphan most of your life? And then a family adopting you and...what then? These four stories show that sometimes finding a family isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Families have issues, problems, arguments, tragedy...

3.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of Reading for some key insight
My mother had read this book, so I wanted to read some stories that captured her. I learned a lot...there are four different stories here about four different orphans and how their lives were turned upside down. It's sentimental and there are some worthwhile lines that you'll find 'in between'. However, it's not classic literature by any means. I enjoyed it for the...

I really enjoyed all four of these mini-books in one big collection. I don't think I would have enjoyed them if they were seperated. The stories kind of built off of each other. I really enjoyed watching these girls struggle to be themselves & to get through their own seperate tragedies & obstacles. I couldn't wait for some of the characters who were nasty to get what was coming to them.

The characters were developed pretty well & the stories flowed at a perfect pace, not dragged out or made to read too quick.

Flowers in the Attic series is still my fav. though!

It's sentimental and there are some worthwhile lines that you'll find 'in between'. However, it's not classic literature by any means. I enjoyed it for the fun, knowing my mom related to the stories. I'm thankful that I made the time to read and find hidden messages for myself.

V.C. Andrews left notes and outlines before her death, however, there were only so many, and they were used up by the last book in the Logan series. This series, debuting after the Logan series ended, shows, because the format was rather unexpected.

The four stories are interesting on their own. They do not compare to the classic VCA book, but published under a different name (namely, the ghostwriter's own), this would have been a decent read on its own. Each orphan's story is sad, as all of them were abandoned by their parents for one reason or another (Raven later than the others so she remembers her mom quite well) The first three girls are adopted into families that offer them promise, but then, things go horribly wrong. The three adoptive mothers are all deluded in one way or another - and it's ALWAYS the moms who are crazy, all of the adoptive daddies are normal/sane, which bothered me. Raven's story is different as she moves in with her uncle and aunt after her mom disappears, and she is mistreated horribly by her uncle.

This is nothing like Flowers in the Attic, and this series was also the sign that the 'good times' were at an end for the 'VCA' books, sadly. To be honest, it would have been nice if the VCA name was put to rest after the Logan series finished.

This book was pretty good. It is rather tame for a VC Andrews book, but the general theme that runs through all of them is still there. I liked the Janet (Butterfly) story the best. It was a quick read and 4 good stories. I am currently reading the next one Orphans.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first vc series!, October 26, 2011

Even though this series was not written by the wonderful woman who wrote flowers in the attic, at the moment I didn't know. I didn't read the first or second page stating she had passed and her family hired a writter to continue her work. I read this series about 12 years ago and I fell in love with Janet, crystal, Brooke, and Raven at first page! I couldn't put them down. I felt bad for these girls and at each event I hoped they would escape! After reading these pick up runaways! I read that in 3 days! Literally couldn't put it down!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Review of the Orphans Series, August 5, 2000

As a big fan of VC Andrews, I always enjoy her books. The orphan series, as well as the recent books written under the VC Andrews name does not have the twisted plot as the first books actually written by VC Andrews. Orphans was an interesting series giving people a glimpse into the lives of 4 girls and the problems associated with the lifestyle their parents chose to lead. The series was differently written in that the girls are telling their stories to each other in the safe haven of their therapists office.

This is the first V.C. Andrews book i read its different from the authors other writings but i feel it reads very well and you connect with the characters very well, i especially liked the raven story, all the stories are tearjerkers and make you feel as if you are in the girls situations. well i can't wait to read runaways the next book in this series. i think this book is a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rain, September 18, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Orphans (Orphans Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was absolutly good. I don't think that I could put the book down for more then one or two hours. I have read this book and also the books that followed. those also were very good. I feel that Rain is the type of book that conects with the life that people don't want to hear about. I also feel that there should be at least be a short novel too at least show what be came of Rain, Summer, Harly, Roy, and Austan.
