This music is very atypical, yet very nice. I listened it on the radio once and I had to buy a copy of the album. Ever since I've been listening to it in a regular basis. It's a very soothing music, yet very rich.

Contrary to the other review this is NOT avant-garde jazz influenced. Not even close. Rather, this is a collection of beautifully arranged songs mixing classical Brazilian styles with some mild jazz improvisation. There is nothing here that would make one cringe or reach for the earplugs. All one will find is gorgeous, lush songs that take the listener on a journey of delight and discovery. I have played this album for many a person and never had a bad reaction. It is often found in my player on a Sunday morning while I'm drinking tea and reading the newspaper. Highly recommended.

'Avant-garde art music' is the best definition for Orquestra Popular de Camara; so Brazilian music fans anticipating a traditional pop sound may be disappointed: pop it is not. While the classical influence is evident throughout, the avant-garde jazz influences are also prevalent - and just when you think there's no Brazilian pop influence, a surprising samba will creep in.
