Clean cheap and efficient with a stylish design that puts the cute in execute. This engine of rodent revenge gives you endless options to display your mastery over these soldiers of the devil. The trap is easy to bait and holds these egotistical little vermin in a grip that, if no action is taken, will slowly squeeze the squeek out of them and send a message to their fellow gangsters. Look at the action shot I placed under the product image above.
The tiny bait door is cleverly placed so that you can open it and look the little monsters eye to eye and they will know who THE MAN is. The delayed death feature gives you other options for execution if you want to get revenge and further demonstrate your domination. With a small bucket you can waterboard them and the trap is microwave safe but be sure to use the lowest power setting to avoid mouse detonation. This is not clear in the directions. This is a great little trap and so much fun. OK OK this is satire. The point is that the trap doesn't kill mice so you have two choices. One: you can kill them yourself by any imaginative technique or Two: you can release the little buggers which involves pushing the lever back down while a crazed and really pissed off mouse comes tearing out of the trap and going for you.

It DOES work,
This review is from: Ortho 0320110 Home Defense Max Kill & Contain Mouse Trap - 2 Pack (Lawn & Patio)
A mouse/mice had gotten in my pantry necessitating a very time consuming cleanup with bleach and disinfectants. I was determined to get rid of said vermin. I bought 3 different traps to test effectiveness, this Ortho Kill & Contain trap, another Ortho that is spring-loaded, and a Victor maze-type trap that is live catch. The one that worked right away was the Ortho Kill & Contain - worked the very first night. For me, the mouse was killed. Even if this trap doesn't kill the mouse as some others have mentioned, I will still use this trap. My main goal is not a totally humane kill, it's to trap the mice and get rid of them and this trap does do it effectively. Although I understand how some people might be very concerned that the mouse isn't killed instantly, giving a 1 star rating is a bit extreme. Mice may seem cute but they are disease carrying pests.

Easy to use for the squeamish,
This review is from: Ortho 0320110 Home Defense Max Kill & Contain Mouse Trap - 2 Pack (Lawn & Patio)
The trap I used to find at local home improvement stores (a see-saw type box that rests on a pivot point--the mouse travels to the far end to get the bait, tipping the box and shutting the door) is no longer around. So I tried this. Easier to set than my previous traps. It has a bait door that simply pops open and a push lever that sets the trap inside. I use peanut butter. The closed box seems quite sanitary, and as Ortho claims, blends into the surroundings rather unobtrusively. The side with the lever has easy to read indicators--"set", "mouse caught" and "reset"--that can be read from a distance if you don't want to get too close. And the trap has a little handle to pick it up for disposal (without getting anywhere near the mouse inside). This is advertised as a "kill and contain" trap--a rather conventional plastic snap lever nicely concealed inside a plastic sleeve (sanitizing the experience of killing a mouse). I can't vouch for the claims that some make, but some have said if the mouse is small enough, this trap will simply catch it inside (and not kill it), so as to make it possible to release the mouse into the wild. This trap isn't designed or marketed for catch and release (after all, it does have a spring mechanism), but I assume it can be used that way (provided the mouse doesn't experience too much trauma).
My only complaint is that as the field mouse I caught was so small (and yes, it caught my mouse the first night I set it out), that the side lever incorrectly read "reset" rather than "mouse caught". Looking inside, I could see the mouse's tail. Nonetheless, this trap gets the job done. Release into the wild or dispose of as you like. As with all traps, your mouse may or may not be dead inside, so how humane on the scale this trap falls is really your call. I may still hunt for the true catch and release trap, if I can find it locally.

caught and killed on the first attempt, efficiently caught 4 with these traps: and I didn't have to look at dead mouse bodies, or trembling timorous wee beasties stuck to fly paper that I have to hit with a hammer or throw into the outdoor trash; and no putting down poisonous bait that causes rodent death in hard to reach places creating that distinctive "dead rat" smell for days in the house. A little pricey?? Maybe: what are you willing to pay to get mice out of the house and how do you want to do it: this is dead easy and clean.

I live in a rural area near farmland and we usually have an annual mice problem once the harvest season has concluded. For years we used the traditional wooden mouse traps to catch mice. However, they don't seem to make those traps like they used to because they don't seem as sensitive. For instance in the past few years we frequently have found these traps still set, but with all the bait licked clean.
We decided to try something different and I came across these kill and contain mouse traps from Ortho. After using them for nearly a year now, I can say that I love them. The traps are very easy to bait and set. There's a little flag/lever on the side that lets you know if the trap has caught a mouse or if it has just been released without a capture. The trap is quite powerful as it has snapped the backs of all the mice we have caught with them. We have had no issues with any mice eating through the trapdoor where the food is placed nor have any of the traps failed to kill the mice they capture. The traps are designed so that once a mouse is caught, you can throw the entire trap away. However, though I've not done it myself, a person could empty the trap of a mouse and reuse the trap. Part of the appeal of this trap is that they are designed to be thrown away and a person doesn't have to see the dead mouse. I think that if one were to reuse the trap, it destroys this appeal, but it can be done. The traps are reasonable priced as you can buy a package of two for about $2 more than a package of 2 wooden traps. I've tried several different mouse traps this past year and the ORTHO HOME DEFENSE MAX KILL AND CONTAIN MOUSE TRAP is one of the best ones I've tried.

Works as designed. Maybe not the most humane. For those writing the lower rated reviews, READ THE DIRECTIONS. This is not a catch & release trap. It's a catch and throw the entire trap away without seeing a dead mouse.

Excellent Mouse Trap,
By Ortho suggests that you throw the trap out but the non-squeamish can pretty easily extract the dead mice and reuse the traps if you like. OTOH, $3 a pop isn't bad at all. Highly recommended, especially if your mice have learned to lick bait from the non-covered kind.

I had a mouse in a garaged car that I needed to catch. I bought the 2 pack because they was cheap and sounded effective. I did end up getting some poison too as plan B. I ended up putting a large glob of peanut butter in the back of it (about 5x more than the bait cup holds) and then some shavings of poison just in case it didn't trigger. I left it on the floor of the car and figured with all the noise I was making it would take a couple of days. I came back and checked it the next day and you could tell there was a mouse in it by looks (It flipped on its back, and a clear indicator). Wasn't a real big mouse, but it was dead. It uses a false floor to flip up and corner the mouse, strong spring keeps them pinned. It uses bars to break neck and back, and puts them head down. Was it a peaceful death? I don't know, the amount of peanut butter I put in it made it a mess for sure so I just tossed the whole thing and setup another one just in case I have more.
