Kill Bed Bugs
Ortho Home Defense Dual-Action Bed Bug Killer is a fast- acting and long-lasting bed bug control. Not only will it kill bed bugs you spray directly, but it continues to kill bed bugs that walk through treated areas for up to 2 weeks. In addition, our improved formula even kills pyrethroid-resistent bed bugs, some of the hardest bed bugs to kill.
Kill Bed Bug Eggs
Did you know that bed bugs can lay 2-3 eggs per day and hundreds of eggs over a lifetime? That’s why Ortho Home Defense Dual-Action Bed Bug Killer was designed to kill live bed bugs and their eggs. Plus, since it continues to work for 2 weeks, any hatch-lings that walk through treated areas will be killed too.
For infested mattresses, apply to tufts, folds, edges, sides, and seams until moist. Also, apply on and around bed frames and headboards. Hold container upright with nozzle aimed away from you. Spray surfaces from a distance of 8 to 10 inches until slightly damp. Allow to dry before remaking bed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if I have bed bugs?
A: Sometimes you’ll see live bed bugs in action, but you can also detect infestations by looking for these physical signs: Rusty or reddish stains from crushed bed bugs. Black, dot-sized spots, which is their excrement. Eggs and egg shells. Light yellow skins that are shed as bed bugs grow.
Q: Where are bed bugs typically found?
A: Bed bugs hide in and on bed mattresses, box springs, bed frames, between furniture cushions, drawer joints, carpets, and other dark hiding places. You can also bring them into your home accidentally in your suitcases. Be sure to check around cracks, crevices, seams, piping, and tags for signs of bed bugs.
Q: How do I use the product?
A: To kill bed bugs and bed bug eggs, spray bugs directly when possible. Apply on and around bed frames, headboards, floors, carpeting, baseboards, furniture, moldings, ceilings, and walls. For infested mattresses, apply to tufts, folds, edges, sides, and seams until moist. Allow to dry before remaking bed. For infested furniture, apply only to tufts, seams, folds, and edges. Do not apply to surfaces where prolonged human contact will occur. Also for spot treatment of luggage, closets, drapes and other window or wall appointments.
Q: Will the product continue to work on bed bugs that I miss?
A: Yes, it does. It continues to work for 2 weeks after it has been sprayed, so bed bugs that walk through treated areas will also be killed.
Q: Does this product also kill bed bug eggs?
A: Yes, the product kills bed bug eggs too. Did you know that females can lay 2-3 eggs per day and up to 500 eggs in a lifetime?
Q: Is the product non-staining?
A: Yes, it is non-staining for water-safe fabrics. To test your fabric/surface for water-safeness, spray in an inconspicuous area and look for possible staining or discoloration after the product has dried.
Q: Is the product odorless?
A: Yes, the product is unscented.
Q: I stayed in a hotel that may have had bed bugs. Can I use this on my luggage?
A: The product can be sprayed on luggage to kill bed bugs that may have hitched a ride. Spray bugs directly when possible. Clothing should not be sprayed. Instead place clothing in your dryer on high heat for a minimum of 30 minutes to ensure that all potential bed bugs and eggs have been killed. When spraying luggage use only as a spot treatment or crack & crevice application.
Q: How long should I wait before remaking the bed or coming into contact with the treated surface?
A: You should wait until the treated surface is dry before remaking your bed or coming into contact with it. Also, you should vacate the room after treatment and ventilate before reoccupying.
Q: Does this product kill other insects, like fleas and dust mites?
A: Yes, it kills bed bugs, fleas, brown dog ticks, ants (excluding fire, pharaoh, and harvester ants), spiders (excluding brown recluse and black widow), stink bugs, boxelder bugs, dust mites, crickets, earwigs, millipedes, moths, multicolored Asian lady beetles, and silverfish.
Top Customer Reviews
My test for effectiveness is to find a bed bug and spray it directly. Those in my house ignore Hot Shot products--but when I spray them with Ortho they stop moving within 1-2 seconds.
Ortho works. For me.
I've done days of research and can urge bed bug sufferers to buy mattress and box spring encasements. They are the only products that always get high marks for their effectiveness from product reviewers. I bought the Hospitology Sleep Defense System products for $49 through Amazon and can say that the combination of products is working.
Death to bed bugs!
The can is an aerosol can with a top that you just turn to spray. There is no lid that has to be removed and kept up with. I like the top and the spraying action works good.
Provides protection up to 2 weeks.

Works better over Raid Bed Bug Killer and Hot Shot, (which doesn't work at all). Has not lasted the full 2 weeks in my living room sofa but has worked in the bedroom. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Georgia Girl
