Bought this product and Sedgehammer. We found the OrthoMax was more effective plus it's premixed and ready to go whereas with Sedgehammer you have to buy the dispenser and a "sticking agent" also and mix it in the dispenser (translation - hassle). The Ortho Max killed the nutsedge without killing the other (desirable) grass very effectively and it was easier to use. Oh and no, I'm not affiliated in any way with the manufacturer or seller, I just have a lawn obsessed hubby who hates Nutsedge and asked me to buy several types of product and he also hired a professional service to address the problem.

Of all the options, we were most skeptical of the OrthoMax working, but it worked the best, fastest and cheapest and didn't do damage to our lawn; whereas the professional service killed the nutsedge AND the entire lawn...months later we still have an enormous brown patch where the professional treated...nothing but nothing is growing there (no weeds - yey! no grass, not one blade survived - boo!). They treated the back yard, we treated the front so it was a clear comparison.

The areas sprayed with the Ortho Max, the nutsedge hasn't returned.

The areas with the Sedgehammer, the nutsedge returned with a vengeance.

The entire area treated by the professional is brown. At least in the front yard, we still have a lawn!

We have truly tried a variety of methods to kill the nutsedge and have a clear understanding of what did and didn't work. Ortho Max works. We bought more from Amazon (only place I've found it) and treated the other side of our front yard with the same results..I am confident this product works the best of everything we tried.

I bought this product to kill or control nutsedge in a decorative garden in Minnesota. I had tried the usual products with no success. Even glyphosate (generic Roundup) didn't work. The Ortho Nutsedge Killer wasn't available locally, so I ordered two bottles. This one works! The nutsedge started to yellow and droop 2-3 days after application. Weeds dead in 5-7 days. Be careful applying. Get close to the weed and don't allow any over-spray. This product will kill off any decorative plants. Follow the instructions on the label.

Concentrates available by doing a shopping Internet search for sulfentrazone. Typical concentrates for commercial applications are Eschelon, Solitaire, Bonide 069, Dismiss, etc.

My front lawn used to be a pretty healthy hybrid bermuda. A few years ago some nutgrass got into it, and spread (not quite like wildfire - maybe because we were in a drought). We did battle using the usual weapons - Montery Weed Hoe, Manage, Sedgehammer. all of them needed some significant prep. This year was a banner year for spring rain, and while bermuda prefers dry weather, nutgrass THRIVES in wet soil. This summer I had more nutgrass than bermud! all was lost. A friend suggested this product, and i resisted. until he bought me a bottle "because it's really cheap" Now I really had my doubts. As an experiment, i sprayed a 4-foot by 8-foot area of lawn, in the area most choked by the nutgrass. After three weeks. the gardener observed that I had a rectangle of bermuda in the middle of a sea of nutgrass. The rest of the lawn got the treatment last weekend, hope our hot weather holds out. Man, this stuff works.
I agree with some reviewers, in that it should come in a larger container, but i used it sparingly and maybe a little less thoroughly than the label says, but i can't be happier with the results. it is the most effective nutgrass killer i've ever used, and it costs 1 tenth what the others did.

When we moved into our new house we discovered our lawn was overrun with yellow nutsedge, literally infesting about 70% of our corner lawn. Far too much to try and control by pulling. Two lawn companies and another product we applied couldn't kill the stuff. Not even a little. I bought a bottle of this at Wal-Mart when I happened upon it and started at one corner of my lawn and sprayed until I ran out... It wasn't long! To my surprise a week or so later, all the sedge I had hit had turned brown and died!
It takes a good coating to work, you have to really cover the plant... But at least it worked! This invincible sedge has been driving me crazy! They need to sell this by the gallon or as a concentrate to be mixed in a pump sprayer, because one bottle doesn't go very far at all, and the trigger spray gets a little old after the first 5 minutes.

I have tried every (I think) product to kill nutsedge really kill it forever. Several products will kill the top but given a a week or two or three the nut sedge bounces back with dismaying vigor. Where I have used Ortho Nut Sedge Killer - it remains dead after 4 weeks. We will see but so far so good. Unfortunately it doesn't go very far and the bottle is a pain to use - and it will not spray when held at an angle (like you hold a bottle when spraying something on the ground) when it is less than half to a third full. I would happily buy this product if it was sold as a concentrate to be used diluted in a pressure sprayer like you use Round-up. As it is if you have a lot of nutsedge it is expensive and difficult to use.
