Awesome spermicide product, August 19, 2008
This review is from: Ortho Options Conceptrol Vaginal Contraceptive Gel with Nonoxynol-9, Prefilled Applicators , 10-Count Boxes (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
My girlfriend uses this contraceptive and it works great. I can tell you that you can finally get a second layer of protection while maximizing pleasure because this gel acts as a lubricant when used with a condom. It gives us the peace of mind that we are looking for, we have used this product for several months now and it is excellent!

Good Product, November 27, 2007
This review is from: Ortho Options Conceptrol Vaginal Contraceptive Gel with Nonoxynol-9, Prefilled Applicators , 10-Count Boxes (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
Product worked fine for me, the first time I felt a little burning but I take cranberry supplements to prevent a UTI, and the times after there was no irritation. My boyfriend didn't love it, he found it sticky and uncomfortable.

Pregnant this time, February 4, 2010
This review is from: Ortho Options Conceptrol Vaginal Contraceptive Gel with Nonoxynol-9, Prefilled Applicators , 10-Count Boxes (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
I have used spermicide gels in the past with no problems. We planned all of our children and have 5. I gave away all of my pregnant and baby stuff...and now am pregnant with unplanned #6. I double checked the expiration date and it's way before it expires. (Expires Aug 2010, and this happened Dec 2009.)We normally use condoms but occasionally use this alone instead. That will probably not happen anymore. We will stick with the condoms unless my husband gets snipped.
I do like that it's nice to use this without a condom for the feeling but don't think I will trust to do this again in the future. I can't blame this on incorrect use or typical use. It flat out didn't work for us this time. I found a different review site that had many women pregnant using this without a condom. The documentation on the box: Failure rates, 1 year: with spermicide is 6% with consistent and correct use/26% for typical use. With diaphragm 6%/20%. With Condom 3%/14%. Unprotected shows N/A /85%. Many people use spermicide with condom to have double protection in case either one fails. Probably a good idea if you really don't want a baby.
It is messy in that it will leak out so the woman should wear a liner or pad for a day or less until it all comes out. If you wear a pad it's not a problem. It says douching is not recommended but if you do, you shouldn't douche for at least six hours after sex.
Some people women and men get some itching or stinging. Some get it very badly. I didn't have much trouble with the spermicide although I have terrible trouble with OTC yeast creams.
