This review is from: Orthodox Fathers, Orthodox Faith (Trilogy for Christ, Pt 1) (Paperback)
A gem of a book!
Thomas El-Khoury, a linguist , novelist, author and master theologian of the Syriac-Orthodox tradition (supposedly the oldest existing church) gives us a very ecumenical view of Christianity and the scriptures. Through a Syriac-Aramaic perspective, he shares with us the Syriac origins of the old Testament, the Syriac lineage of the Hebrews and the common bonds that theoratically unite the Oriental and Eastern Orthodox and all Christian denominations that share the seven sacraments especially the Eucharist.
El-Khoury interprets for us difficult Biblical passages on the Sonship of God, the incarnation, Scriptures, the virginity of the Mother of God, Pauline passages and others; all in a coherent and enjoyable style.
One of the most fascinating linguistic discoveries, that you will find in this book, probably of the twentieth century, is the origin of the name of God: Yahweh.
Throughout the book, the very rich Syriac tradition, the first cornerstone of the universal church before, during and after Christ -and before the Greek, Latin and others- comes alive before our eyes.
A very all embracing and ecumenical work. I highly recommend it.
