4.0 out of 5 stars A great book with wonderful pictures, August 8, 2002

As a neurology doctor, I found (and still find) this book helpful in the cartoon illustrations that detail everything from the nerve roots to plexus to individual nerves that innervate the various muscles.

I loved it when I was a resident in training for its very simple yet succinct graphical nature; as a picture is definitely worth more than a thousand words.

Those who enjoyed Ken Lindsay's Neurology and Neurosurgery Illustrated will certainly like this book and vice versa.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference, November 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Orthopaedic Neurology: A Diagnostic Guide to Neurologic Levels (Hardcover)
I found this book to be very clear and helpful in dealing with neurology. There was a lot of great information in it. I'd have to disagree with the previous reviewer, and state that this book deserves a thumbs up!

A joy to read.

I believe a good text to be one which is successful in presenting potentially complex concepts in a simple, clear and succinct manner without compromising pertinent detail. This is a good text - exceptional in fact.

An extremely effective tool. An absolute gem!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Cool Book, September 9, 2008
This review is from: Orthopaedic Neurology: A Diagnostic Guide to Neurologic Levels (Hardcover)
This book succinctly and accurately describes the basic clinical assessment of spinal cord and nerve root problems in 121 pages. The fundamentals of the peripheral neurologic examination havn't changed much since 1977 when this book was written; there really isn't a need for a new edition. It has served me extremely well for 22 years and I highly recommend it. What is even better, I paid $22.40 for it in 1986!

Also highly recommended is Hoppenfeld's "Surgical Exposures in Orthopaedics" book. I am somewhat less enthusiastic about his "Physical Examination of the Spine and Extremities" (the "green book")--I prefer Bruce Reider's physical exam book.

A wonderful book that presents a complex system in a very simplified format. I'm looking forward to a newer edition that would give further emphasis on peripheral nerve exam.

This book is highly recommended to all the residents in Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery.

5.0 out of 5 stars neurology illustrated, May 7, 2007
This review is from: Orthopaedic Neurology: A Diagnostic Guide to Neurologic Levels (Hardcover)
This is without doubt one of the best illustrated and presented publications I have ever read. Presenting a complicated subject in such a marvellously illustrated fashion which is so brilliantly thought of makes me congratulate the author on his superb teaching technique. It really is a masterpiece of presentation and should be read by all clinicians dealing with its topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars osteopathy and neurology, December 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Orthopaedic Neurology: A Diagnostic Guide to Neurologic Levels (Hardcover)
My first introduction to Dr. Hoppenfeld's writing was through his book, Physical Examination of the Spine and Extremities. I found it to be concise, well written and very informative as is this text. It is an excellent resource and since in osteopathy a major focus is on the skeletal system it is an excellent aid.
I can understand previous reviewers frustration with the 'bronx bomber'. To be honest, I don't think I would ever want to rely on any one who is unable to spell correctly. It doesn't inspire confidence. How did they ever get into medical school?

4.0 out of 5 stars INTERESTING, December 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Orthopaedic Neurology: A Diagnostic Guide to Neurologic Levels (Hardcover)
I thought the book was interesting. It explained everything in detail. I was very dissapointed by the previous reviewers comments; a personal attack on Dr. Hoppenfield. I read this book because I was a patient of Dr. Hoppenfield. I must say that if it wasn't for this great Doctor and his knowledge, I would not be walking today.

Dr. Hoppenfield, you gave me my life back!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Petty Bronx Doctor, June 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Orthopaedic Neurology: A Diagnostic Guide to Neurologic Levels (Hardcover)
A previous reviewer (Bronx Doctor) has used this site to bash a legendary surgeon. You cannot hold a professional candle to Dr. Hoppenfeld. Sir you are a poor excuse for a doctor and you bring shame to a noble profession. Why are you so immature?
