ATTENTION DOG CRATE USERS

If your dog spends time in a crate, choosing a crate pad might be the most important purchase decision you'll make for your dog. You might not think about crate pads too often, but if your dog is spending hours and hours laying in that crate, you better believe that this purchase is critically important to him.

Don't buy a cheap dog crate mat. The top selling pads on Amazon are flimsy pieces of material, offering no more support than a bath mat or a balled up towel, making it terribly uncomfortable to lay in that crate all day.

The bottom of a dog crate is made of hard plastic and unforgiving metal. Your dog needs a crate pad that is supportive enough to keep its elbows, hips and pressure points resting comfortably above the hard plastic and metal.

We make our 4" orthopedic crate pads with the same type of premium American made orthopedic foam as in our top rated Big Barker dog beds.

Our crate pads won't flatten or pancake out. It molds perfectly to your dog's body. This gives protection from joint pain, hip and elbow dysplasia and arthritis, and prevents your dog from suffering any physical stress.

The cover is 100% waterproof. You do not have to worry about accidents, liquid will wipe right off without leaving stains or smells.

The cover is also highly tear-resistant and will hold up strongly against dogs that like to dig or nest inside the crate.

- Supreme comfort and maximum support with our premier American Made orthopedic foam

- Big Barker Crate Pads use 4 inches of orthopedic foam. Most other crate pads provide zero orthopedic.

- Our crate mats use 2 different layers of foam. The top 2" is H10 Comfort Foam, which molds gently around your dog's pressure points. The bottom 2" is H45 Support Foam, which provides orthopedic support and prevents your dog's joints from coming into contact with the hard plastic and metal.

- Easy to wash - just remove cover using the extra long heavy duty zipper and throw in the wash.

Very sturdy and well made.

This Big Barker pad is so thick and soft, my dogs must be so much happier laying on this instead of the old mats.

Hi Folks,

This might be only the second or third time in my life that I have been motivated enough to actually write a review.

There are a lot of dog beds on the market. Most of them are made in China with the goal of achieving the least possible cost. Along the way, both product functionality, quality, and durability are traded off in favor of reaching either a lower price point, or a higher profit margin for the seller.

What does this mean in terms of dog beds ? Who loses when the price is right ? Well, both the dog and the owner lose when people only shop based on price. The dog gets a bed with low density foam that compacts fairly quickly, leaving them essentially sleeping on the hard ground or kennel bottom. Cheap dog bed covers will tear or shred easily when the dog decides to build their "nest" before bed, or easily allow the dog to chew through the cover and tear up the foam padding beneath. The owner loses when the bed has to be replaced fairly frequently or has to visit the vet more frequently due to issues with canine arthritis, etc.

I am fairly anal about taking care of our four legged family members and when they began showing signs of arthritis, we knew we needed some larger kennels/crates so they could stretch out and lay down flat on their sides. Finding good quality dog crates was the easy part. Finding decent pads for their crates was much harder.

We did a lot of research over a number of weeks. We visited Petco, Petsmart, and various local pet stores (including the various "boutique" pet stores around the North Dallas Texas area) and looked at what was available. We were pretty disappointed in what we could find.

This is our second big barker bed, having a full size version for our other dog. The foam is as great as they say it is on the website. This crate one comes in more of a heavy canvas type material, rather than the suede-like material the bed comes in. This, in theory, would make it last even longer, stand up to more traffic, etc. However, I would warn that if you have a heavy chewer, this dog bed will NOT stand up to it. Light chewers may be ok, but my heavy chewer went through the first one we bought in less than a day. The second one we bought in 3 days, and then my husband sewed the second one back up using metal wire over the zipper so he wouldn't be able to open it again, and he instead just opened it at a corner and still took the foam out. So, if your dog isn't a giant pain in the rear as mine is, you will probably love this bed.

This is a much more expensive crate pad than I'm used to, but let me just say that it's worth the cost. My dogs have used crates their whole lives, and they've usually had the normal crate mats with the little bolsters around the sides. Those mats seemed fine, they're better than laying on the hard plastic and the dogs didn't complain.

But man oh man now I feel bad. This Big Barker pad is so thick and soft, my dogs must be so much happier laying on this instead of the old mats. I wish I bought these years ago.

Put it this way... the regular mats are like little rugs. This Big Barker pad is like an actual bed. The regular mats are "adequate." This Big Barker pad is "extremely comfortable." The regular mats are like laying on a carpeted floor. This Big Barker pad is like laying on my expensive mattress.

I have a 6 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi who underwent TTA surgery last October. Right before his surgery, I purchased a different brand's orthopedic bed. After his surgery, he had trouble getting into his crate, so he spent most of his 8 week recovery period on his orthobed. Now in April, I find myself rushing the poor guy to the emergency vet for a suspected elbow fracture. As it turns out, he has advanced osteoarthritis in both elbows. (If you're counting, that leaves him with one good limb.)

After the visit, I am instructed to confine him to two weeks of crate rest. I have had a simple crate pad in his crate since I adopted him at age 3; however, after two nights whining in the crate, I finally gave in and let him sleep in the living room on his orthobed. I tried to find another orthopedic mat from the previous company to put in his crate, but they don't make them in smaller sizes. Luckily, I found Big Barker.

The crate pad fits perfectly in my standard 30" x 21" wire crate. The cover is thick and secure, and I found the foam to be firm and high quality. The foam is much firmer than my other orthopedic bed (at least for a 36 lb dog) and does not sink in the middle (or anywhere else for that matter) when he lays on it, which gives me peace of mind that his joints are receiving the proper amount of support at night. I've been tucking him away in his crate at night with this new orthpedic crate pad, and I haven't heard him complain since. I've noticed that he is less restless in the crate around bedtime, he falls asleep quickly, and he seems comfortable.

I docked a star because the cover on the crate pad is scratchy and crunchy. He doesn't seem to like the feel of it on his paws and the sound bothers him when he steps or moves on it.
