Book Description

Charnwood Library August 1, 1995
Ortolans – a magnificent house, which held a mysterious grip on those who lived in it, hides a secret the Calverley family did not discover for four hundred years.

Three passionate, remarkable women were to play a vital role during Ortalans’ long, violent history. First there was Eleanor, forced into an unhappy marriage to a ruthless adventurer plotting to take over the house. Then hot-headed Sophia, prepared to risk everything to keep the house and finally Emma, the modern woman who wanted it all: the career; the man and the house. Just when it seemed all was lost, Ortolans finally gave up its incredible secret

About the Author

Claire Lorrimer began her writing career as a child. She was encouraged and influenced by her mother, Denise Robins, author and founder member of the Romantic Novelists Association. On leaving school, Lorrimer got a job on the editorial team of a woman's magazine. During the Second World War, serving as a WAAF officer, she began to write light romantic fiction for Woman's Illustrated. Her literary work later included some sixty light romantic novels. Meticulously researched, Claire Lorrimer's historical fiction is set in many different eras and often highlights the situation of women. She lives in rural Kent and still writes stories and plays for her friends and her eight grandchildren. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.
