Editorial Reviews

Review

"Will enable you to tackle new water and new angling problems with confidence."--The New York Times

From the Back Cover

The Orvis Guide to Reading Trout Streams is a complete guide to where trout live and feed in a stream. By learning to predict where trout will be, fishermen can cast effectively and wade confidently without spooking trout into cover. Perceptive and practical chapters include "A Trout's World," "Currents and Rocks," "Pools," and "Riffles, Runs, and Bends." Also included are sections on seasonal and daily changes, various approaches, and the differences among species of trout and between big and little rivers. Graced with dozens of helpful schematic drawings by Jim Sulham and more than seventy-five revealing photographs, this book will give all trout fishermen a more coherent understanding of the waters they fish. (81/2 X 11, 176 pages, b&w photos, diagrams)

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Me Feel Like An Expert, November 27, 2009
This review is from: The Orvis Guide To Reading Trout Streams (Paperback)
Before we catch fish we must find them. Mr. Rosenbauer tell us how in great depth. He describes every kind of water found in rivers, and where we are most likely to find trout. This book has great illustrations, so throughout the fishing season it's easy to quickly review the essentials of reading the water of streams and rivers.

I don't see how anyone could write a better book on this subject. This is one of my favorite technical fly fishing books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book review, September 15, 2011

This review is from: The Orvis Guide To Reading Trout Streams (Paperback)
Don't let the fact that this book is entirely in black and white even though the cover is not, deter you. It is well thought out and presented. I think any level of fisherperson can glean some worthwhile information to improve their on-stream skills. Style of writing comfortably presents the details.
