Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Good wing shooting requires proper technique. Too many shotgunners imagine that their success in the field, or lack of it, is a question of luck. Not true, says Bruce Bowlen. Good shooting depends as much on technique as it does on natural talent and instinct. Bad shots can become good ones, and good shots can become even better. In this concise and clearly written guide to the fundamentals of wing shooting, Bowlen covers the basic elements as well as the intricacies of proper wing shooting. The correct stance, timing and motion, equipment, and safety procedures are described in detail. In addition, there are chapters on Field Shooting versus Trap and Skeet, Lead and the Psychology of Wing Shooting, Gun Fit, and much more. The Orvis Wing-Shooting Handbook contains valuable information for both the novice who wants to learn to shoot and the experienced shotgunner who wants to improve. It is a tool as useful as the finest gun or the most loyal dog. (6 X 9, 96 pages, illustrations, diagrams)

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Game Shooting Techniques, August 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Orvis Wing-Shooting Handbook (Paperback)
Tremendous read and a must for all field shotgunners! Bruce Bowlen is clear in his writing style and articulate in instructional shooting technique.

Bowlen not only illustrates proper shooting technique but also includes other equally important topics such as gun fit, safety, and eye-dominance. Probably the most fascinating area to me was the history behind why Americans have had a hard time adapting the classic English technique.

If you enjoy bird hunting, you would be well-served to invest the time to devour the contents of this book. I can attest to improvement that it has made in my success and have shared it with all my friends.

This is a pretty good book that actually spends more time covering fit of a gun than any other single subject. The actual shooting process is described in a unique but very effective concept. Any wingshooter could pick up a pointer or two from this brief guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for the intermediate shotgunner., January 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Orvis Wing-Shooting Handbook (Paperback)
Bruce Bowlen's book is clearly written and well illustrated. I am confident it helped my techniques and success on recent Pheasant and Quail shoots. It may also help skeet shooters. It will help anyone "fit" a shotgun and mount it better.
