This is a fabulous CD that gets played over and over in my house. The songs make me want to learn the lyrics and sing along, and even when I don't know the lyrics I find myself trying to sing along. It's almost impossible for me to listen to this CD without wanting to get up and dance. Each track on this CD blends 3 or 4 songs back to back. From songs like 'Pedadora' to 'E Baiana' to 'Vai Vadiar', these songs are classics in the tradition of Carnaval and the Escolas de Samba. My one warning is that it is a little repetetive.

An absolutely gorgeous set of old-school acoustic "pagode," (in the '70s sense of the word, not the poppy '90s version). This album honors the work of composers such as Ivone Lara, Jair Do Cavaquinho, Elton Medeiros and Nelson Sargento. A bunch of these old-timers are pictured and named on the front cover, and make guest appreances thoughout, although the album is anchored by a group of younger musicians who, I assume, go by the name of Os Meninos Do Rio. At any rate, this is a super-lovely record. Fans of Beth Carvalho or the Velha Guarda Da Portela owe it to themselves to track this one down.
