The inspiring adventure of a confident sock monkey.

Oscar is a sock monkey who can do anything. One day, his little girl, Susie Green, forgets something important, and Oscar knows he must bring it to her. He embarks on an adventure of epic proportions and learns to read a map, navigate a city, and defeat a bully. He even has time to enjoy cupcakes and subway music and dance a little jig. It's all in a day's work for this intrepid little sock monkey.

Amy Schwartz and Leonard S. Marcus have crafted a sweet, funny story that proves that even little sock monkeys can accomplish big things.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

K-Gr. 3. Oscar is a very small sock monkey. He lives happily with his owner, Susie, in an apartment building in a big city, which New Yorkers will recognize as their own. When absent-minded Susie takes her rabbit to school for a pet show, Oscar discovers that she has forgotten the key to its cage. He locates the school on a map and takes the subway there. There are a few distractions along the way, some pleasant (he stumbles into a bag of cupcakes) and others less so (a bully stuffs him in his pocket), but the loyal monkey perseveres. Finally, he reaches the auditorium and drops the key directly into Susie's pocket. Schwartz's pictures are full of wonderful patterns--Susie's striped socks, the bully's camouflage jacket, the subway's tiled walls--and vividly evoke city life in all its color and variety. This charmer from a noted husband-and-wife team is sure to please any child who has counted on a toy for solace, while slipping in a lesson or two about planning, determination, and affection. Oscar is a little sock monkey that belongs to a little forgetful girl named Susie. Susie's class is having a pet show. She brings her rabbit but forgets the key to the cage. Oscar sets out on a mission to deliver the key to the girl's school! Will he make it!

The story was very cute. It gave life to stuffed animals. A lot of kids think that their toys can do think like humans can.

Yes. It has a message that even little kids can do BIG things!

I gave this book to my grandson for Christmas. He's only 9 months, but we all love reading it to him. I made him a sock monkey and gave him the book to go with it.
