5.0 out of 5 stars And the winner is... Oscar De La Hoya!
When I first saw the CD for sale at Amazon; I felt VERY skeptical about a hardcore boxer singing. I thought that it was going to be like another Rocky or WWF music soundtrack. I had an idea of who he was as a boxer, a very smart person that always knew what he wanted out of life, and an excellent fighter perhaps one of my favorites. One day I was watching TV and he was...

This cd is an ok cd. I think that "The Golden Boy" sings better in spanish than in english. But overall the cd is alright.

One day I was watching TV and he was in a show where I watched him sing "Ven a mi." I was amazed, so I decided to buy his CD. He delivers many deep messages as a singer, and actually determines the real star inside of him. His voice, well for someone that beats everyone up, is very, very nice and the music has a fine upbeat tone with a very precise soft touch to it. I listen to all kinds of music, and I really enjoy listening to someone that sings from the heart. Listen to the previews; if you do not speak Spanish, there are a couple of songs in English that are worth the purchase. This is the beginning of a new Latin star in the music industry.

First off when you buy this CD forget that Oscar is a boxer. Buy this Cd if you want to hear great music. Oscar has a beautiful voice. There is not one bad song on this CD. Oscar shows that he is multi-talented. Oscar proves he is a champion outside of the ring. Keep up the good work in the ring and in the recording studio!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Golden Boy with the Golden Voice, February 10, 2001

Whether you buy this because you are curious if Oscar can sing, or you want to support him in his venture into the music world, or hell, you just want the pictures, he has the voice of an angel. His mother was a professional singer and he has never hidden his love for music. This is something he has always wanted to do, and he did it well. He obviosly was blessed with his mothers voice. I don't even speak Spanish and I love this CD. He has surrounded himself with some of the best musicians and producers in the business and it shows. It is a very well put together CD. His mother is smiling down on her boy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un ejemplo al talento latino, October 13, 2000
By
This review is from: Oscar De La Hoya (Audio CD)

Oscar de la Hoya's self-titled debut album at first look, doesn't seem to be a great album. However, that is completely wrong. De la Hoya is actually great at singing the songs available on the album. Personally, I like "Mi Amor"(Track 1 & Track 13), "Para Qué"(Track 2), "Run To Me"(Track 3), "Te Amo"(Track 8), "Prometeme"(Track 9), and "Ven A Mi"(Track 12). Ven A Mi is actually a Spanish version of the song Run To Me, which was originally sung by the Bee-Gees, but given a modern touch and feel with de la Hoya, and his producer, the great Rudy Pérez. Quite a good album for those who like good Latin music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad For A Fighter, November 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Oscar De La Hoya (Audio CD)
Many may argue that de la Hoya is a fighter and not a singer. But after listening to his debut album a few times, I am convinced that he has put his heart and mind into this album and his effort is truly commendable. While he may not have the greatest voice (who does anyway?), most of his songs are lovely. I particularly like the 4th song "Tu Me Completas". Although I do not fully understand Spanish, this upbeat song is just fantastic. His Spanish "Ven A Mi" sounds even sweeter than the English version. Try it and you'll be amazed!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Golden Boy Shines Again! under a new light..., October 23, 2000
By
This review is from: Oscar De La Hoya (Audio CD)
When I first heard that Oscar was recording a CD I was obviously disinterested, maybe he could come up with something with a lot of publicity and a lot of over-dubbing. So when I heard "Run To Me" playing in a theatre, boy was I surprised to find out it was Oscar and not a Bee Gee's remake! This album shows one thing above all else... Oscar De La Hoya is very passionate about his work, and what from what I have heard on this CD, "Singing Oscar" - "Este es su Vida" Any musician/singer can tell you that Oscar worked very hard to get this sound out, and boy does it show. I have been telling everybody I know about this CD!! Here is a real example of what TRUE PASSION and HARD WORK can do for someone. "Way To Go, Oscar"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Oscar a champion behind the mic, too!, October 11, 2000

Like his left hook, his voice is a thing of beauty. Whether it be in English or Spanish, his soft, sext voice will put you in a trance, much like his murderous punches. He is on the verge of crossover superstardom - already one of the most wealthy boxers in the world, expect his singing career to take off.

My favorite track - Ven a mi - a beautiful, upbeat song in which Oscar's vocal range is tested - most beautiful indeed.
