Book Description

April 1, 2002
Oscar Niemeyer, one of the most prolific architects of the 20th century, has long been considered a pioneer of modern architecture. This book is an intimate exploration of one man's unique vision, and his commitment to it even as he faced exile from his home country, Brazil. Niemeyer's crowning achievement was the creation of a new capital for Brazil. Named chief architect for Brasilia, Niemeyer used his signature style - a play on the contrast between curves and concrete - to design its major buildings and left his mark on an entire nation. Now 92 years old, Niemeyer remains one of the greatest living architects of our time. With an in-depth interview and photographs by Matthieu Salvaing - who traveled with Niemeyer from Rio to Brasilia, from Sao Paulo to Belo Horizonte, this book is the candid testimony of a living legend.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, September 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oscar Niemeyer (Hardcover)
7 and half pages of a boring interview and 37 pages of generic photos is not quite what i would call "a book". Litteraly, that's all there was to it! I was hoping that there would be some discriptions and history behind some of his famous works such as the Museum that's on the front cover. There was a 2 page spread of a terrible photo of the museum and that was it. In fact, all the photos of his works has no discriptions.
VERY disappointing i must say. i don't recommend it. Now have a 6 x 8 inch paper weight collecting dust. How nice!

This review is from: Oscar Niemeyer (Hardcover)
Curves of Time: Oscar Niemeyer Memoirs

exquisite photos of many beautiful, interesting and progressive architectural works. surprising revelations about his politics and friendships in socialism. unexplored criticism and praise for his last 15 years of practice. he is now 100 years old, our last link to the origens of Modern Architecture!

very fine presentation.

2.0 out of 5 stars Oscar Niemeyer, January 28, 2008

This review is from: Oscar Niemeyer (Hardcover)
I have to say I was disappointed in this book. It is small in size and does not do justice to Niemeyer's work with some images spread over two pages making it difficult to see them. There was also hardly any information on either the works or Niemeyer. If you are after some good images and information I would recommend you look at other books rather than this one.
