5.0 out of 5 stars Quality
A wonderful instrument, whatever the price. No problems with the strings that came with it (they just needed a little tuning), the action, the bridge, anything. I would highly recommend this mandolin for beginners.

3.0 out of 5 stars High action, good sound, hard on the fingers
This mandolin i found sounded really good, and looked wonderful. The only qualms i have with it are the high action, and was rough on the fingers. This isn't to much of a problem, if you have a store locally that could lower the action for you, and set the bridge up correctly, because the intonation is a little off because of the high action. over all, i'm pleased with...

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality instrument for beginners., April 16, 2009

This is a great entry level mandolin. I have played the guitar for a few years, but this is my first try at the mandolin. It is fun to play and to me it has a good sound. I am like most beginners...I didn't want to pay a fortune for an instrument to learn on. This is a quality instrument at a reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mandolin - Oscar Schmidt, January 29, 2009

Instrument arrived within 4 days of placing the order using standard shipping(even with a shipment delay notification). Instrument is very nice and arrived exactly as advertised. The only negative issue was that the bridge was not installed and there were no instructions on the proper way to do so. However, by looking at the picture on the web site, I was able to install within a few minutes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for learning, fun to play, June 7, 2011
This review is from: Oscar Schmidt OM10 Mandolin (Electronics)
Christmas present, to help this keyboard/harp player learn a string instrument to play with a family of guitar/banjo players. Definitely a good value and sounds very nice ensemble. Just fine for learning mando (chords, strum and some limited but nice sounding solo) so in a few years I can move up! LOTS of fun. Did some self help filing nut to lower action, but need to take it in for some very minor fret work (don't want to do that myself). But still sounds nice out of the box and...did I say? LOTS of fun, cheap.

2.0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for, December 27, 2010

musical instruments in the < 200 dollar price range are not going to give you a bang for your buck. You will get frustrated playing this instrument due to the high action and inability to stay in tune past the 7th fret. I recently found out why. While trying to change the strings and lower the action, I discovered that the saddle is not glued to the body. I believe that this caused some of the tuning problems since the saddle wasn't fixed properly. Then after getting new strings on, I discovered that the tunings heads were popping out of the headstock. Clearly this isn't going to help the situation. I was excited to get this mandolin and learn how to play it, but I wish I had spent a little more on a real beginner instrument. It's going to be tough to play a mandolin that is falling apart in your hands. The "good" news is that it played much better once I got the strings on and tuned up with the action lowered (easy to do with the screws at the saddle). Now I guess I should invest in some glue for the saddle and the tuning pegs...
