Simply beautiful!,

After a month of solid use the OU7T has become my instrument of choice. The first thing that caught my eye was the stunning exotic wood grain of the spalted mango body. With the addition of tastefully done inlay and ebony tuning keys I figured this ukulele is either a great piece for wall decoration or a serious instrument. After a quick tuning of the factory installed Aquila strings (best ukulele strings anywhere!) I struck the first chord and realized it was both. The delightful sound from the OU7T is a rich blend of crisp, but not overly bright, attack and mellow sustained resonance that I never expected at this price point. The neck action is also perfectly smooth and without any string buzz even when G is tuned down an octave. I still enjoy the portability of a soprano and shared guitar chord simplicity of a baritone but more and more find the distinct mango wood sound of the OU7T combined with the numerous tuning options of the tenor size make this my "go to" uke. I highly recommend this delightful instrument for anyone wanting a ukulele with superb sound and visual appeal that won't break the bank.

Great Tenor Uke,

Have had this ukulele for about a month. It's got great sound, easy fretting, beautiful intonation, and it is gorgeous to look at. It also came with aquila nylgut strings, which was a pleasant surprise. These are the best strings in the business and it's nice to see that attention to detail. Great tenor ukulele, I would recommend it to anyone wanting to expand their collection, or start learning this great instrument.

I just got my OU7T this week. Admittedly, I just started teaching myself the uke about 5 or 6 months ago. I was pleased with my Ohana TK-10, but wanted to reward myself when I got better. The beauty of the Oscar Schmidt OU7T was what struck me first, but when I took it down and played it the warmth of tone and ease of play were all that mattered to me. It has many amenities such as the spalted mango body, chrome and ebony Grover tuners, a slightly longer neck, great strings and very well done 'mother of pearl' inlay. After hearing Ukulele Mike on Youtube say that this was his newest favorite ukulele I placed my order, and will not be needing another uke for years to come. I love it! Chicks dig it too. ;)

Couldn't believe how bad it sounded for the price,

So up front it has to be admitted that this uke is a drop dead head turner to look at. Seriously, the thing looks beautiful, there's no other word for it. Sadly, it sounds like a $20 toy uke you'd find in a novelty shop.I really tried to like this instrument, I really did. Especially as people would WOW over it's looks, but the bottom line is that it was unplayable to me. Finger picking sounded OK, but the strumming sound was just plane old plinky. Hell, I actually own a toy soprano that sounds better. I returned this instrument for a full refund (thanks Amazon) To be fair, any musical instrument comes down to personal taste, this one just didn't do it for me. If your looking for an instrument that looks cool, will turn heads and bring many an admiring whistle, this one will do it. However, if your looking for an instrument that's actually going to sound half decent and give you many hours of musical enjoyment, look elsewhere.

I bought this based upon my great experience with Oscar Schmidt OU-5. It is one sweet concert size Koa (laminate)Uke. I saw the spalted mango OU-7 and fell in love. It is simply beautiful and has the same brightness and playability of the OU-5. Ukulele Mike on youtube.com plays Oscar Schmidts and swears by them. I play in a large group and swear my Oscar Schmidts hold their own against handmade ukes costing 5 times as much as mine. This is a great first uke. Here are a few tips for uke beginners. When you get your ukulele, it will be in the same condition as it was sent from the factory. My tuning pegs needed tightening and the strings take a few days to stretch before they can hold their tuning before going flat. This is normal. If you are teaching yourself, I strongly urge you to get some lessons and join a ukulele club in your area. You'll find alot of other beginners and you will build your confidence and knowlege. Have fun and spread the joy!

Best on the wall....,

I bought this ukulele as a beginner 3 months ago because of it great looks with no experience for the instrument. My reasoning for the amounts of money spend was, if I don't like playing ukulele, I can at least hang it on the wall and look at it.Well, that's where it is now. Since I played guitar many years ago, I got reasonable quick into the instrument and liked playing it. I also enjoy playing since two months with the "Sons (girls) of the beach" in Santa Cruz. There are always over 30+ ukuleles present in a nice setting of fun and great energy. This gave me a lot of exposure to other ukuleles from low to the higher priced custom made ones. What I found is that lower priced ukuleles I heard and tried myself sound in most cases better than this one. The ukulele I received ($210, but not from Amazon as they were out of stock at the time) sounds muddled and there is no warmth or full sound to it despite the addario strings it came with. This is a tenor ukulele, but it is not as loud and full sounding as an average smaller soprano ukulele. In a group of ukuleles, most likely nobody hears it (including the player) anyhow. Well... at least that could be of some benefit to a beginner playing in a group.

This instrument is a real head turner but the sound is cheap. I agree to the lone negative reviewer, Garibaldi. I bought the Lanaki LU-21 Soprano Ukulele which is far more cheaper than this instrument but the sound is far more louder, warmer and crispier. The sound of this Oscar Schmidt OU7T Tenor Uke is more like muted. I'm not a pro Uke player,(I play guitar) but I can tell the big difference. Maybe, if I didn't have the Lanaki LU-21 Soprano Uke I wont be able to tell the difference. Anyway, I'm sending it back and getting another Oscar Schmidt tenor. So much for the fancy looking spalted mango. I'm giving it 3 stars because it really looks beautiful, very finely made and it feels solid when you're handling it. Indonesian craftsmen are good.

The sound is good, the look and colour of the wood is beautiful. The plastic piece at the very top of the neck is raised so somewhat irritating when playing; my Kala concert uke is smooth and doesn't get in the way when I play. Overall I'm enjoying this uke and am pleased with my purchase.

Solid UKE for the money. I have an OU5 and like them both, but the 7 fits full sized hands a little better. I like this UKE and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for the price. New strings made a huge difference in sound.

This is my first tenor uke. While I would prefer a solid vs laminated top/back/sides, this uke out performs any solids that I tried. Has the tone of ukes priced in the $600 to $700 range. Intonation is dead-on. Workmanship is flawless. Highly recommended.
