Book Description

May 1993
The oscar, Astronotus ocellatus, is one of the most popular fishes in the hobby--certainly one of the most pobular of the large fishes available to hobbyists. Not among the most colorful of tropicals and not among the easiest to care for properly, it maintains its grip on the affections of fish fanciers mainly by being a truly Interesting fish and a comparatively smart one as well--It has personality and is about as close to being a real pet as a fish can get. This book concentrates on providing information about the essentials of housing and caring for oscars; It's easy to read and easy to learn from. Topics covered include: Oscars in General; Housing for Oscars; Equipment and Decorations for the Oscar Tank; Feeding Oscars; Breeding Oscars; Diseases of the Oscars

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the novice, June 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Oscars-New Ed (Hardcover)
The information in this book is useful for the novice, new Oscar owner, or someone thinking about purchasing an Oscar. If you already know what you are doing, you'll find this book to be a sleeper. It covers the basics including feeding, breeding, equipment, and housing for the Oscar. Though it's written in a clear manner, the author has a problem with throwing in his personal opinions into the text which I found to be very annoying. The color photos aren't the best but do their job.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Beginners How-To Manual, June 25, 2000
This review is from: Oscars-New Ed (Hardcover)
This is a short, easy put together reference for the beginning Oscar hobbist. Not too much info, but enough not to overwhelm. Would be a good starting book for younger people.

This book is awesome at desribing how oscars re-act to people, what they eat and their quirky personalities. It's a must if you are thinking about buying oscars.
