4.0 out of 5 stars excellent information on Osiris, June 14, 2000
By
This review is from: Osiris and the Egyptian Resurrection, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
The legend of Osiris says he was murdered by his brother Seth and resurrected, with the aid of his wife Isis, thus becoming god of the underworld. The author believes he is one of the most important ancient Egyptian deities, with his origins in the Predynastic Era. He attempts to establish a relationship between the cult of Osiris and other African religions. In the first volume, he examines iconographies of Osiris in general and interprets Osiris as an ancestral spirit, judge of the dead, moon god and a bull god. In the second volume, the focus is on the funeral and burial practices, the idea of the Ka, and also the spread of Osiris and Isis to neighbouring lands. Although the book is a little out-dated, it remains nonetheless an excellent source of information regarding the ancient Egyptian god Osiris.

The book receives four stars, simply because there are other books on Osiris which contain more recent information.

4.0 out of 5 stars great together, volumes 1 and 2, loads of info, January 1, 2005
This review is from: Osiris and the Egyptian Resurrection, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
there are 2 books like this, the one shown above is volume 1. there is lots of information about the egyptian religion with osiris, however this comes in between loads of information regarding religious tradition and practice in africa overall. of all the many never heard of or rarely mentioned tribes within africa, this book presents lots of information about the various religious practices and traditions and ways of life, it then ties this into the suimilarities in osiris;'s story in a way as a comparison of sorts. if you are solely looking for a book on JUST osiris this is overloaded with more info than you need. HOWEVER, those familiar with egyptology will recognize the author as one of the most knowledgable sources, and can learn a lot from this book. not easy reading, as the info is so in depth. you will learn much about osiris over the course of time in which the religion in egypt revolved around osiris. you will learn the names in which he is called, the way the rulers incorporated osiris into their own names, and many other bits of info regarding osiris. loaded with info, a great reference to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Black Egypt the truth, July 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Osiris and the Egyptian Resurrection, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Osiris and the Egyptian Resurrection vol. 1 is a great read by Sir Wallis Budge. In this first volume Budge shows and proves the origins of the Ancient Egyptian people came from the Sudan. This debunks all the racist nonsense that the Ancient Egyptians were not black Africans. One of the world's greatest and famous Egyptologist who is white gives concrete cultural facts proving Egyptians were once a black African people
