If you want a waterproof bag you will need to buy a paddlers bag or a marine overboard bag.
Also, if the rest of the pack comes in contact with the rain, it will absorb the water and add considerable weight to the whole load.
The load is comfortable and stable over very rough terrain and well distributed when you make the adjustment to the straps.
