This is a great pack. It's expensive but worth the price in comfort. I use it for rigorous backpacking and when I climbed Mt. Rainier. So far it's been about 9 months of use and nothing has broken, torn or had problems. It's light weight for a long haul. I'm a 5'5" small-framed woman and I bought the small size. Be sure to measure yourself or you will be very uncomfortable. I mismeasured and had to return the medium. It also has a feature that you can mold the hip belt to your body if you take it to a store authorized to fit it. It adds a lot to comfort. I've carried up to 45lbs in it. The weight sits well on my hips and the pack does not sway around behind me and it cinches up really well. There are straps at the bottom for your tent or sleeping pad. It's fine that the bag opens at the bottom for the sleeping bag, but if I had a choice I would not have gotten this feature. I had to repack my whole bag anyway and all the extra zippers, etc. add weight and are just one more thing that have the potential to break on the bag. Also I have difficulty getting my zero degree sleeping bag in through the bottom, even with a compression sack. It has great pockets on the belt. It's amazing how much I use them considering I've never had them before. It has loops for a walking stick and ice axe. It also has a water system compartment. For long backpacking trips I use a 3L bladder. Then I fill up two 1L bottles of water that fit in the side pockets. The pockets are deep and stretch to securily hold the bottles even if I bend over or swing around. But I have to take the backpack off or ask a friend to get my water bottles out because I can't reach them comfortably with the pack on. There's no whistle on any of the straps so you'll have to get your own. Also, for the price I was surprised that there is no rain cover or travel bag. You have to buy those separate. The lid comes off to use as a day pack but really it's more like an oversized fanny pack. I have not used it. Finally, while this bag may seem costly, Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect no matter when you bought it or how often it's been used. Overall, it's a great bag and company.

I am going on vacation in a week so my review so far is only about the way it feels and the design. I honestly wasn't sure of the size when I first ordered it, but once I received it I was quite happy with my choice (Medium size, I am 5'6 ) if fits perfectly, and feels super comfortable. It has a lot of space and I love the front zipper (makes things much easier when unpacking) the color is not as red as in the picture, but still a pretty shade and if you are good at packing you can definitely fit a lot of things. I'm putting it to the test in Iceland so once I'm back I'll post about how it fare.

I bought this backpack for a trip around the world in 7 months (Asia, Europe & Africa) so I needed to be a big one but light weight.
This pack offers everything I needed.
The only thing is that you can't lock it anyway because it hasn't zippers, but I guess I could buy a zippered cover and put it in just to despach the backpack at the airports.
I am waiting my travel to use it for the first time!
