5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent album for fans of British pop & The Bunnymen, September 7, 2000

This review is from: Ost (Audio CD)
For starters, this album is a MUST for fans of Echo & The Bunnymen. Jimmy Grimble has 2 tracks featuring Ian McCulloch of The Bunnymen with Alex James from Blur and Simon Boswell. I loved the almost-acapella feel of their rendition of sentimental favourite, "Blue Moon". "Do You Believe?", an original penned by McCulloch, James & Boswell, is a bit schmaltzy to begin with, but sets into a nice groove. Other highlights- a couple outstanding remixes updating old 80's favourites. EMF's "Unbelievable" is druggy cool, and Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Two Tribes" ...well, if FGTH did the "Shaft II : John Shaft in the Matrix" soundtrack, this is what it would sound like. I also dig Freestylers "Feel The Panic", and old standbys from Charlatans, Happy Mondays & Stone Roses. Of course, Echo & The Bunnymen w/"Nothing Lasts Forever" ...well...it's the Bunnymen. All in all, a great addition to anybody's collection.

If you like the Manchester sound you'll love this amazing soundtrack from this little known movie. There's not a weak track in the lot. To my knowledge most of the tracks are by Manchester-area bands, though there is some classic '90s techno there too for good measure. Buy this album. You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars There's More to Life than Football...Just Kidding!, February 21, 2003

Anyone who has seen this great movie will thoroughly enjoy owning this soundtrack. I stumbled upon the movie and despite the fact that it isn't about my beloved Arsenal (see "Fever Pitch"), it is a fantastic movie with a great cast (Robbie Carlyle, Ray Winstone, Gina McKee, John McArdle). Unlike so many movies, the soundtrack really is an integral part of the movie, especially the scenes depicting Jimmy's and Greenock Comprehensive's drive for the Manchester City School Boys' Cup. The music you hear on screen is the music on the soundtrack. As I heard the songs, I could remember the scene/game. Made me want to watch the movie again. Although the movie is set in the late '90s, the music is more from the late '80s when the "Madchester" music revolution was in full swing. Manchester's own, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans UK, The Happy Mondays, are all well represented. Additionally, great songs by The Freestylers, Ian McCullough (collaboration and with Echo and The Bunnymen), Moby, and Fatboy Slim round all a truly enjoyable disc. A must have for anyone on the blue side of Mersey or anyone wanting a solid soundtrack.
